Weekend Fun Trip Report

The southeast, particularly the Tri-Cites region, has had a health helping of rain over the past week.  It has been great seeing all the boaters out enjoying some natural flow!

I got the chance on Saturday to lead my brother-in-law, Jeff Weatherford, down his PFD of Wilson Creek.  Andrew Bentley joined us for the adventure and Jen (my fiancée) ran shuttle for us.  It was a good day and Jeff went away as a proud first time creeker!  Check out his full trip report with this link: http://worldkayakblogs.com/georgiaboyntenn/2009/01/12/wilson-creek-dun-dun-duhhh/

Saturday night we got another good rain that brought the creeks back up in the Holston and Doe watersheds.  This gave me the chance to meet up with the Damscus Boyz for a Medium-High (19” on the visual gage at the take-out) Whitetop Laurel run on Sunday afternoon!  We ended up having a huge group that met up.  I had to split off ahead of the rest with Karol Gray from Pot shoals, VA to finish the run in time to make a commitment at church I had that evening.  We had a blast, despite a couple of incidents that happened to others (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lJ4arKco50&feature=channel_page - Video from Jason Bordwine’s headcam of the incident) before we split from the group.  Thankfully everyone got down OK!  Check out the videos below of some of the fun we had…

A big thanks goes out to Richard Smith of Damascus for the videos he shot!  Good times!
