Have you ever run the Gauley? If your answer is no then this is the contest for you! With the help of some of the worlds best boaters World Kayak will help you decide if you are ready for the Gauley. Once all applicants have been qualified names will be drawn out of a hat to form our groups. We will have groups on both the upper and lower. Groups of four first timers will be lead down by teams of two skilled world-class guides. So far this year we have confirmation from IR that Chris Gragtmans and Roger Loughney will be there. Jackson Kayak team members Clay Wright and Ruth Gordon have also confirmed, and I expect a number of other JK folks to be on board as well. Both Spencer Cooke and Steve Fisher will be there to represent for Riot Kayaks.
Everything goes down on Gauley Festival Saturday the 20th of September. The deadline for applications is 9/9/08. Send an email to colin@worldkayak.com that includes name, phone number, section of the river that you are looking to boat, and a short kayaking resume that includes some of you best and latest runs. To qualify you must have never boated the section of the Gauley that you are applying for and you must me a World Kayak member. Don’t worry it is free to join and you can sing up to be a World Kayak member at www.worldkayak.com. Colin will contact you to discuss your resume. As guides are added we will announce it on www.worldkayak.com and www.boatertalk.com. The number of guides will determine the number of participants that we can handle. Last year there were 150+ applicants for 16 spots. This year we are asking the participants make a $10 donation to AW that we will collect and present to the AW folks at the festival.
