Preparing for my PFD of the GNAR

Tomorrow (Saturday, May 31, 2008) I will attempt my personal first descent of the Green River Narrows with one other friend and a great guide.  I set this goal for myself back in December 2007, after my creeking clinic in Mexico with Leland Davis, to run the Narrows by June of this year.  I have been progressing my skills all winter long with my TVF Team and other friends to prepare myself for this run.  I am by no means a class V boater, but I guess you will never become one until you start trying to run more class V stuff.  I have only ran two class V rapids to date: Hydro on Watauga Gorge and Oceana on Tallulah.  I feel that running the Narrows is the only way to keep progressing my skills as a creek boater, due to the nature of the run and the dependability of the flow.  I feel I am adequately prepared for this run, but it is unquestionably going to be the hardest section of river I have ever ran.  I would please ask that you would keep me and my group in your thoughts and prayers for this endeavor.

I thought when this day would come I would be a train wreck of emotions, but strangely enough I feel very mentally & physically prepared for the upcoming day.  God has surrounded me with a sense of calm and focus.  I can’t wait to share with you a trip report from the day when it is complete.  Wish me luck…

My first hike into the Narrows to watch the 2006 Green River Narrows Race.
