Here at Boise we’ve had our last Hometown Throwdown of the year. A big thank you to everyone thats helped make it such a fun year.
As usual our competition was on the second feature at the amazing Kelly’s Whitewater Park in Cascade, Idaho.
We had eleven competitors, two of which were all the way from Portland, Oregon.
Everyone had three rides, best two count, to show off their tricks. There were a few less ariels than before mostly because of the lower water that made the wave shallower than usual. There were …
Cascade had its second HomeTown ThrowDown this past Saturday. We had eleven participants that all competed in the second feature of Kelly’s Whitewater Park. The weather was in the high 80′s and the Payette North fork was a perfect temp.
Water levels are still above normal compared to last summer, which made the wave a little flushy, but nice and deep. Most of the tricks were loops and space godzillas. Wesley even did a few clean cartwheel paddle spin combos.
Three of our competitors were all the way from Bend, Oregon. And …
Idaho’s first Hometown Throwdown of the year was finally on a warm sunny day and we had great flows at Kelly’s Whitewater Park. Temps in the mid 70′s and warmer water meant no poggies or skull-caps.
With these flows the second feature is great for loops, space godzillas, cartwheels, pretty much anything you can throw in a wave-hole. We ran three hole rides and had a couple of swims. Swims to me mean people are getting out of their comfort range and LEARNING! So kudos to those swimmers
We also …
Saturday was out last Throwdown for the year in Idaho. Weather in
Cascade was awesome with a bit of a breeze. But you could tell that
Fall is not far off.
I am so jazzed to see the kids from Kelly’s Kayak Academy continuing
to return and have Troy Wilson run a clinic for them prior to the
Throwdowns. These kids are really excited about paddling.
Water was down to about 1400 cfs (from the normal 2200), so made it a
bit shallow but the more skilled paddlers could still throw ends and
loop. Water still feels good …
Idaho is on Fire….and we were reminded of that during our 4th Hometown Throwdown as Long Valley filled with smoke so thick you could taste it. Fires near Horseshoe Bend, Stanley and Mountain Home have been burning for weeks and Idaho is second only to Colorado for fire activity this summer.
However we had a great time and the 90* weather made the water all the better.
We had 6 kids return from Kellys Kayak Academy Devon Barker-Hicks has been teaching. Great to see them show up and show continued interest in …

Who would’ve thought the second throw down of the year, two weeks later then the first, would have worse weather than the first? It snowed before the competition and there was sleet directly afterwards. The temperature was around 43 when the competition started, but the water was a bit warmer.
Eight boaters braved the snow and sleet, two of which were from Stanley. For such a cold day, everyone really put on a show.
KWP offered a solid feature once again and the hot dogs definitely hit the spot.
On Saturday, the North …
Yet another awesome Throwdown for Idaho, but sadly, its the last one of the year. We had around hundred spectators for this event. The KWP wave was primo for smaller boats. It was shallower than the last few times, but it made up for it by being stickier. Our group consisted of more people from out of town than locals. Out of the nine of us, five were from Bend, Oregon. It was awesome having that group paddling with us. They did an excellent job, especially for having so few …
ThrowDown number four is over for Boise. Yesterday I was up at Kelly’s Whitewater Park along with nine other competitors- two of which were from Utah. I think this was our first TD with only one junior, which was me. So I was thrown in with the mens category. Like before, we were on the second feature and it was perfect for our group. There were a few more kayakers new to surfing that were game to get in there. All of them did …
We had another Throwdown up at KWP last Saturday. We had thirteen competitors, three new to throwdowns. The high water changed the waves a bit so the second feature wasn’t too sticky but nice and deep for loops and cartwheels. The top wave was super sticky and big, so we opted for the second feature. Having the bridge to the island sure was convenient and even allowed for spectators to come over to watch. After two hole rides we held a boatercross again. The boatercross seems to be …
Yesterday was this seasons opening day for Kelly’s Whitewater park and the second Throwdown for Idaho. The weather forecast was bleak with snow expected for the day, however we arrived in cascade with sunny skies and a temp of 36 degrees.
We began the day at 8:30 with a fantastic KWP opening-day breakfast of pancakes with awesome berries and sausage – what a way to start the day! Next we had a dedication of the bridge to rock island. It’s pretty incredible to watch …
I’ll have to just start by stating this – This Throwdown was way too much fun! Let me count the ways:
E.J., Dane and Family showed up
Kids from the team trials in Missoula showed up
There were tons of spectators
It was 4th of July weekend
The water and weather finally warmed up
Did I mention that E.J., Dane and …
Idaho Hometown Throwdowns for 6/24 and 6/26. With cancellations for high water we ended up with 2 Throwdowns in 3 days. Thursday evening we had a TD at the Gutter in Horseshoe Bend. The eddy was tough and everyone was tired at the end of the night.
Big thanks to Sean Bierle of Alzar School for helping score the variety on this night. Mike Voorhees hit cartwheels, split-wheels and backstabs. Tyler and Willard both had a split-wheel as well.
The youth had tons of energy, but were the tough eddy access as …
