The final event in the 2012 Nolichucky Hometown Throwdown Series closed in style!  We continued the trend of “the year of no rodeo” on th Noli, due to heavy rain earlier in the week leading up to the event.

The third event in the 2012 Nolichucky Hometown Throwdown series was kind of a shocker!  Just when we thought the river level for Big Rock was going to drop in for a good rodeo the day before, we awoke on event day to discover the river level was rising from rain overnight.  We have now coined this year’s Noli HTTD Series as “the year of no rodeo”!

However, we made the best of it and had 16 competitors join in for some friendly downriver freestyle/slalom and boatercross competition!  We had several …

Opening Ceremonies.

Last evening the worlds kicked off with the opening ceremonies.  What a good time!  Everyone was out supporting their home country in every way possible.  The town of Plattling did a great job organizing the event and making it a great time for everyone.  The town square was full of spectators from all around the world as well as right here in Plattling.  Working with kayakers is somewhat like herding cats, so there was a good bit of slack time while everyone found their other country members and got together …

Worlds report 3, even higher water and early morning practice.

Once again the water was higher in Plattling today.  The sun is starting to think about coming out, but we will have to wait and see.  The coaching platform that was hung by the event organizers is getting dangerously close to floating away.  The first day that the platform was hung you could sit with your legs hanging off the side and not touch the water.  This morning there was about 6 inches between the water and the bottom of the platform.  The training slots continue to rotate, and today …

Worlds report 2, Team training and higher water.

So far the world’s has been an amazing experience.  The local community is very welcoming and everyone seems genuinely excited about their town hosting this amazing event.  Team training slots have started and each country gets 3 minutes per paddler each day, so as you can imagine folks are getting very focused for their limited time on the feature.  Each country is approaching it in their own way.  Some are simply cutting things off just as soon as someone flushes, and other countries are giving each paddler their full 45 …

Getting to worlds!

My trip to Germany for the 2011 World Freestyle Championships started at 3am when Hope, my beautiful wife, was kind enough to drive me to the airport.  Needless to say at that time of the morning I was less than animated.  I got to the check in counter earlier than the airline workers so that I could make sure getting my boat on the plane was as easy as possible.  Other than the huge fee to fly a boat all went well.  I am always amazed that everyone does not …

Chicago Throwdown Results

Anyone who doesn’t think midwest boaters are badass –doesn’t know sh!t (literally).

South bend had storms the few days before the throwdown, and any of you familiar with the area know what this can do to the water quality on the St. Joe river… Pair that with the 42deg air temperature yesterday, and you’d think no one would want to get in their boats. Far from it! We had 9 boaters in attendance for our very first throwdown, representing Indiana, Illinois and Ontario. Hell Yeah!
