Germans win the big trick contest.

After the SUP event yesterday there was a big trick contest and all sorts of crazy fun.  The winning trip was from a team of Germans that managed to tie three Rockstars together and throw a big loop.  The best part was that the center boat was back wards for the full trick.  Here is a video thanks to Lee Hart.

SUP cross and a down day.

Today was a down day in Plattling, kind of.  There was open water time for everyone.  You could watch all of the finalist getting ready for tomorrow, as well as seeing tons of other competitors taking long fun rides and just working on evolving the sport.  This afternoon there was a SUPcross race.  Mike Tavers and Dane Jackson were dominating all of the prelim rounds.  Dane and EJ were competing against each other in each of the first rounds, and they also both made it to finals.  As the competitors …

Semi-Finals

I started today off with a 4 am short practice session.  I just wanted to get on the water for a short paddle to work the bugs out.  After that I was a bit worthless and I took a long nap.  Semi finals are done for all categories now and the top five are set in each.  Due to my nap and a good bit of email work I did not get to see too much of the semi finals for the other events, but I did see a few …

Womens quarters, and Mother Nature’s power!

Last evening Mother Nature showed us who is boss!  As were waiting for the final heat of the women’s quarter finals a wall of clouds descended upon us and decided to tear up the event site.  A massive tent (15ft*40ft) was lifted off the ground, inverted, and then snapped in half over a pretzel stand.  Everyone jumped into action and grabbed a hold of it, until we could break it down into pieces so it would not end up in the river like the Pyranah easy up tent.  As we …

K1JR, the start.

The JR boys are currently underway here in Plattling, and in some cases it would be tough to see a distinction between the men and the boys!  The level of paddling is so high that I don’t envy the judges for this category.  Here are a few photos of the first two heats.  I will post more photos and news later today. As I am posting this I just watched Dane Jackson throw down a ride that is a game changer.  I don’t know the score yet, but I will get them posted …

K1WJR prelims

The JR women got their chance to shine this afternoon under a blazing sun.  The girls were able to showcase a solid mix of loops, spins, and space godzillas.  US team member Lauren Burress even threw a mcnasty in each of her rides.  I don’t believe the judges scored them, but the fact that they were close is super impressive.  Gabby Bates from the UK threw down to super consistent rides to end up in second place, and Hannah Kertesz from the US had one ok ride combined with one …
