Getting to worlds!

My trip to Germany for the 2011 World Freestyle Championships started at 3am when Hope, my beautiful wife, was kind enough to drive me to the airport.  Needless to say at that time of the morning I was less than animated.  I got to the check in counter earlier than the airline workers so that I could make sure getting my boat on the plane was as easy as possible.  Other than the huge fee to fly a boat all went well.  I am always amazed that everyone does not …

Season 2 : Episode 1
The Whitewater Grand Prix and Hell or High Water are two major whitewater events that just occurred in Canada. While these events are very different, both of these events play a role in corresponding whitewater federations in Quebec and Ontario. Both have also acted as a launching pad for these groups [...]

USAFK Tour Stop: Buena Vista Pro-Am Rodeo

For four seasons and counting the Beuna Vista Pro-Am Rodeo has been the centerpiece of PaddleFest Weekend. The fifth USAFK Tour Stop for the 2011 series was slated to go off in the LoDo Wave at the BV Park, but with lower flows and a later melt in the Arkansas River Valley, the event was moved upstream to Downtown Hole. Pro Qualifiers for both Men and Women Pro classes took place on Friday, May 27th, with Junior Men/Women, Open Men, C1, OC1, and Pro Semis/Finals on Saturday, May 28th.
Being the …

USAFK Tour Stop: Green River Expedition Freestyle

Green River is a warm, welcoming town in the high plains of southwestern Wyoming most well known as the launching site for John Wesley Powell’s expeditions of the Green River, Colorado River, and Grand Canyon. The Expedition Island Park, a National Historic Landmark, is also the site of a man made play feature and the fourth event of the USAFK Point Series. With the new feature in town, Green River was glad to open their doors and host the first Green River Expedition Freestyle. With high flows in the river, …

The Whitewater Grand Prix was an experiment to say the least. Pat Camblin had a vision of an event that our sport hasn’t seen yet. A competition combining 6 different events, both race and freestyle, over 14 days, chasing the best whitewater in Quebec.
The idea was always there, but no one know for sure what [...]

Whitewater Grand Prix: Freestyle

Well we had our freestyle event on a new set of waves here in quebec, called ‘Pillars.’ It is a sweet set of two waves just under a train bridge. This made is easy for spectators to come and watch the show. It was impressive to see the air being thrown and number of moves.

Reno River Festival Boatercross and Awards photos!

Sunday, brought the crowd friendly event of boatercross.  4 boaters racing head to head working as hard as they can to advance to the next round.  How can we make that a bit more rough and exciting for the crowd?  That’s right, you put a mandatory upstream gate in the course!  Not only do all the boaters have to go through it traveling upstream, but if any one is behind it gives them a chance to get back in the mix and to “interact” with the other racers.  I must …
