Hot Throwdown in the Queen City

5 July 2012 2 Comments

It was a scorcher in Charlotte last Sunday with the first Hometown Throwdown of the season. Eighteen folks battled the heat and each other to show their stuff on Sunset and M-wave. There was some fierce competition from all over as paddlers came from Asheville and as far as Lynchburg, VA. We started the day with the juniors and the ladies on Sunset which is a nice little wave that you can throw loops on along with spinning yourself dizzy. We finished off with the men battling it out on the notorious M-Wave. Big blunts were in and D’z kids were going for airscrews, which M-Wave will give up if you time it spot on and they did. Everyone had a great time as we welcomed several first timers and a number of brave spectators who stuck out the entire event even though there Chacos were starting to melt. Here are the results:

1st Kenya
2nd Wes (in his first Throwdown, thanks to the Pyranha Rebel)
3rd Gus
4th Montana

1st Rowan
2nd Rebecca (her first throwdown also)

1st Matt Anger
2nd Ty Caldwell
3rd Matt W
4th Chris
5th Greg
6th Jeremy
7th Tie Connor and Pete
9th Tie Tim and Daryl

As usual a big thank you to all of our sponsors for making the events a blast. We were also joined by some of the paddlers from Pryhana who came to help us out with event and even brought a fleet of boats for everyone to demo and of course to Throwdown. Thanks to Matt, Ty, Rowan, and of course Big D for braving the heat and joining in the fun!

Check out some great shots below from the event! Thanks to PJ for taking the photos. This is only the first installment of photos many more to come!!!

So you know, Wes liked the Pyranha Rebel so much it became his first kayak. We bought it from NOC on Sunday July 8th. Pablo picked it up while there and brought it back and Wes has been paddling in it every day this week…

Many thanks for organizing the event!!
