OC1 prelims

22 June 2011 No Comment

worlds4.0 001Anyone who says OC1 is not impressive has obviously now seen what that part of the sport has evolved into.  Any boat that can loop and throw vertical flat water ends is good by me.  One thing you can expect to see at an OC1 event is a big mix in the variety of shapes of boats you will see.  Everything from full planning hulled boats to slightly longer displacement hull boats are all game.  There are some set rules about flotation as well as the volume of water that can end up in the boat even with all the flotation in it.  The prelims today saw a number of loops and cartwheel based moves.  Dane Jackson even attempted to throw some entry moves on both of his rides.  During one of current OC1 world champion, Jeremy Laucks, rides a family of three dropped in the hole on the far side of the river in a full 18 foot open canoe!  Enjoy the photos.
