Reno River Festival Boatercross and Awards photos!

10 May 2011 No Comment

P5080077Sunday, brought the crowd friendly event of boatercross.  4 boaters racing head to head working as hard as they can to advance to the next round.  How can we make that a bit more rough and exciting for the crowd?  That’s right, you put a mandatory upstream gate in the course!  Not only do all the boaters have to go through it traveling upstream, but if any one is behind it gives them a chance to get back in the mix and to “interact” with the other racers.  I must say the gate was a great addition to the event!  Preliminary heats set up half of the semi final heats while the losers from this first round had to battle out two more races to make their way into the semi’s.  I was one of the folks had had to do it the hard way.  I was a bit more tired, but on the positive side I got to do two more runs than the other boaters!  After the semi finals are set you are looking at some very fast and aggressive, especially in the women’s case, boaters.  This year the organizers put some good prize money up for the boatercross, so if you needed any extra motivation there you go.  At the end of the day I was lucky enough to walk away with the win.  Enjoy the photos, and make sure to look under some of the racers to see if they are actually going over another boat, sorry Manny.  Thanks to Hannah Kertesz, Rose Demoret, and Steph Viselli for these photos.
