Prelims at Thun

OK. The finale has started. After Germany, the boaters were pretty stoked about getting to the next venue… Thun Switzerland. Some litterally left after the last ride in Germany, some the next day, but most who continued to compete were on the wave the next day.
The Swiss wave was far different than the first two hole-style events. Moves were different, and the skill sets to make those moves were different. Those used to playing in a hole or who trained on holes exclusively were at a profound disadvantage here… the result… some new faces making it through to the final rounds.
C1 started off with a bit of the same leaders, contradicting my last point, but with a notable great ride by Dane Jackson being a difference. Dave Bainbridge of Great Britain was very solid with 480 points over Dane and a regular, Lee Pike of GB on their heals. Looks fun for their semi’s.
Danes name appeared again on the JR Men’s tablet for the top 3, as he took third with Sebastien Devred in a familiar spot after an amazing 833 point total! Keeping in mind that the top score in mens was Peter’s 1007… oops did i spoil that one for ya?
K1 Womens prelims were a bit weird, the scores weren’t that high and there were a lot of new comers on the top 10 moving on… Ruth Gordon of Canada showed everyone that she’s ready to take the World Cup with a 273 point total with Fiona Jarvie of Great Britain in second and Emily Jackson in third. Other notables making it to the semi’s were Mariann Saether of Norway and Jesse Stone of the USA with compiate Devon Barker. This will be tight as the top three here are the top three World Cup points contenders. Wow.
OK… them mens. The rides were amazing and when the dust settled the top three in the overall standings were buzzing around the top of the scoreboard. Peter Csonka of Slovakia came in first by a nose over Stephen Wright of the US with contenders Eric Jackson and Dustin Urban coming third and fourth making it to the quarters. The rest of the board is made up of almost every country of these world cup championships… a great showing.
Quarters are next for the men!
