World Kayak Event Coverage

World Kayak is one of the major sponsors of the Golden Community Rodeo. The Golden Community Rodeo is a grass-roots effort that brings together whitewater enthusiasts, local residents and businesses, and industry representatives to participate in this community event. The GCR is well organized, managed, and run exclusively by local volunteers whose common characteristic is the hope that all levels of boaters will feel welcomed at this event – from the meekest “newbie” to the local heroes. Their goal is to provide fun events where everyone is welcome, and everyone is supported. With close to 40 folks showing up the GCR is well on its way to meetings it’s goal, and delivering kayaking to the masses. From duckies, to river boarders, first time competitors and seasoned local pros the GCR has it all. It’s a Colorado classic in the making.
Anyway, the third night had a huge turnout along with some great
sunshine. We had 35 competitors being cheered on by about 300
spectators, entertained by Reed Koenecke’s excellent MC skills. Fat
Jack’s subs fed as many as they could. Outdoor Divas set up a kiosk.
Spyderco Knives had a tent as did Alpenglow. WorldKayak.com gave us two
pairs of Mountain Khakis and will be giving us two more pairs this
coming week. If you don’t win a pair, you can find them at Confluence
Kayaks in Denver, our title sponsor. Say thanks to them when you try a
pair on because they are also giving us a new playboat as a prize.

And we had to halt to rodeo briefly at times to let Renaissance
Adventure Guides take 35 riders for free down through the Golden Play
Park in duckies, when they weren’t letting people float around in the
pond. (They’ll be there this coming Wednesday too). And don’t forget to
take some photos and develop them at Mike’s Camera in Boulder or Denver.
You should have seen Lainey win the costume contest with her body and
her entire boat turned into Nemo from the Disney movie. Will Nemo make
another appearance in Golden next Wednesday? There only one way for you
to find out.
