Charlotte / Tri-Cities Hometown Throwdown Event #3 Coverage & Current Overall Competition Results

By wildwildwes • Jun 17th, 2008 • Category: Throwdown Results, WK Hometown Throwdowns

Our HTTD #3 went down with great success again at the USNWC on June 7.  The Crown Town was blistering hot with temperatures nearing 100 degrees and the water temperature in the ditch was not much better…  Sunscreen, shade, and drinking plenty of fluids were the name of the game!  The well water springs pouring into the channels were also a good place to cool down during the day too.

Despite the hot temperatures and a few of our Men’s K-1A leaders out in CO for other comps, we had another great turn out of 26 competitors.  There was some tight competition among the Juniors and the Men’s K-1B divisions!  The Juniors division saw a two way tie for first place and the Men’s K-1B division saw a three way tie for second place!  Everyone who competed or volunteered for this event went home with prizes thanks to all of our great sponsors!

Good times were had by all in attendance…

Location: Charlotte, NC - USNWC, 2nd drop of the Instructional Channel - AKA “Meltdown”

Congrats to the winners & all who participated!  Come back and join us on July 5, 2008 for Event #4!

I have had some trouble getting photos from individual from Event #3.  If you took any photos during this comp. please share them with me ( wesley at worldkayak.com), so I can post them up with this event coverage for all to see.

If you have not participated in one of these events yet… What are you waiting for???  Come out and join in on the fun and prizes.  There are only two events left (July 5th & Aug 2nd).  Don’t be shy and miss out!

We have now completed 3 of the 5 events in our Hometown Throwdown Series.  We have had some surprising changes in the leader board since event #2.

  • Chris Stafford has taken a commanding lead in the Men’s K-1A overall standings.  Sean, Chris, and Fergus have their work cut out for them to catch up with Chris, if they still want a chance to earn their bragging rights for the series.
  • Yours truly has taken over the lead from Richard Ellington in the Men’s K-1B overall standings.  I can assure you it’s not from my mad playboating skills… but only consistency in participation.  So bring the heat Richard, Vaughn, & Ben if you want a piece of my current top spot…  In the mean time I am really enjoying being in the lead of my first freestyle kayaking competition!
  • Sarah Harper is completely dominating the competition in the Woman’s K-1 overall standings!  She keeps improving her score in every event too!  She is on the road to victory if she keeps up her consistent participation or will one of the other girls bring the heat in the last two events?
  • Currently we have a tie for 1st place in the Juniors overall standings between Matt Wright & Michal Smolen.  Event #4 should be very interesting to watch which one of these young guns will come out as the young leader!
