The final event in the 2012 Nolichucky Hometown Throwdown Series closed in style! We continued the trend of “the year of no rodeo” on th Noli, due to heavy rain earlier in the week leading up to the event.
However, like we have been doing all season, we made the best of it and had 12 competitors join in for some friendly downriver freestyle/slalom and boatercross competition! We had several spectators who watched and cheered on the competitors from the Riverpark Campground bank. The event was held at Big Rock on …

Reno Hometown Throwdown #3
As we were finishing getting everyone signed up for the
event this evening a cavalcade of protestors and cops rolled into the park
yelling about Hispanic workers rights.
So, instead of our normal benign competition in hole 3 we moved downstream
to the rowdy hole 5. This was a step up
for many competitors but also a chance for the more advanced boaters to show
off their fancy tricks.
Again, thanks to Ninkasi Brewery the post paddle hang out
went until dark with everyone getting a share of the prizes from IR, Mountain
Khakis, Shred Ready, Kokatat, …

The second Reno hometown throwdown went off without bad
weather Wednesday showing itself.
We had a great crew at the Whitewater Park throwing down

with some great swag, the Ninkasi towel was first off the rack, followed close
by the IR thick-skin and Mountain Khakis, DVDs from Rapid Transit, Helmet from
Shred Ready, shirts from Kokatat and Chaco, and tons of paddle wax from Stony
Boater.
With lots of new boaters in town this year the Ninkasi
Brewery fueled after throwdown hanging out.
It takes …

The 1st hometown throwdown was a big success.
20 racers and a good crowd of spectators and volunteers showed up at the Floriston rapids on the Truckee river last night.
With two runs down the boof filled course each competitor was able to show off their river skills.
Our beer sponsor this year is Ninkasi brewery and we had their president racing down the course then passing out cold bombers of excellent brews.
Everyone stayed till well after dark, hanging out and talking about …
With the Stakeout format in full swing, early in the week the water was up everywhere, initially creating a variety of options. As the snow finished melting and the rains rolled slowly Will’s Creek in Fairhope, Pennsylvania provided the location of the 2nd Race in the World Kayak; Western PA Region Creek Race Series. I must admit, I had never run Will’s Creek, but the pics and beta on Railroad falls, Yo-Yo rapid, and some great class 3-4 boogie water got me stoked for a great race. Upon reaching reaching …
