2014 Seaway Valley WK Throwdowns have started again :)

May 17th marked the beginning of a new WK Throwdown season in the Seaway Valley and the Riviere St-Charles in Valleyfield Quebec.
The weather forecast was poor and the overlap with the 1st Habs VS Rangers playoff game knocked off a lot of local participants but we still had a great time and the group that came to play was awesome. Given the 7 to 1 loss by the Habs folks should have come out on the water it would have been more rewarding. And the weather turned from …

Bad weather Wednesdays returned this week for the HTTD#3 held on the Floriston rapids.  We had 16 racers this time who navigated a fun course with one major move around a large midstream boulder requiring a full 360 degree path with several attainments.  As always the race was followed by Ninkasi brews in the parking lot where racers were part of a raffle for great prizes from our sponsors including: Jackson Kayak, IR, GoPro, Chaco, Rapid Transit, Kokatat, Astral, Ninkasi, Shred Ready, Stonyboater, Smith, and Mountain Khakis.

Reno HTTD #2 went down Wednesday without a hint of bad weather.  We had five girls and five guys in the water at hole number 5 at the Reno Whitewater Park.  Since it is almost time for the Reno Riverfest, we had 3 world champions, 4 RRF champions and the NZ national champion in the house.  As always there were great prizes from Mountain Khakis, Astral, Shred Ready, IR, Chaco, Stony Boater, GoPro, Jackson Kayak, Kokatat, and plenty of beer from Ninkasi.

Well bad weather Wednesday has held off for a while now and this week was no exception.  The ever popular downriver race at the Floristan Rapids in the Truckee River Canyon was on tap to kick off 2014…
This year the sponsors have really stepped up their game, with Ninkasi moving into NV this month we will have more great beer than even kayakers can handle.  With SMITH sunglasses, Jackson Kayak, Mountain Khakis, Shred Ready Helmets, and GoPro HERO3.  The race went off without a hitch, with a hard ferry to …

As the seasons change so do the beers from our favorite brewers Ninkasi.   With a cooler of Slayer and Oktoberfest on ice, the Reno World Kayak crew invited all of the locals up to the Floriston rapids on the Truckee River for the first annual headhunt.
Headhunts were a fall tradition on the Ocoee river in TN, we followed the traditional format with everyone chasing “heads” as they are tossed into the river.  Prizes including a
GoPro Hero III black edition,
Mountain Khakis glass belt buckle,
IR rash guard,
Chaco T-shirts,
and Jackson Kayak Beanies
were given …

Boise HomeTown ThrowDown #4

Here at Boise we’ve had our last Hometown Throwdown of the year. A big thank you to everyone thats helped make it such a fun year.
As usual our competition was on the second feature at the amazing Kelly’s Whitewater Park in Cascade, Idaho.
We had eleven competitors, two of which were all the way from Portland, Oregon.
Everyone had three rides, best two count, to show off their tricks. There were a few less ariels than before mostly because of the lower water that made the wave shallower than usual. There were …
