Well after 6 months I’m back in my boat again. Just to recap I have a herniated disc in my neck that paralyzed my arm. After all the money spent on doctors, physical therapy, you know what actually got me back in my boat? The Jackson Paddle Station. This little gem did more for me then physical therapy ever did and quicker. The money I saved when I stopped going to physical therapy payed for the damn thing in a couple of months.
Now on to my first trip back. It was down the Lower Green. What a great little river for beginners. I picked it because I wanted something easy for my first time back in so long. I don’t recomend it if they are releasing on one generator at 100% though. It was scrapy as hell. At two generators there are a couple of great park and play spots with a better flow. Most likely I’ll never go back but for you beginners it’s a great place to paddle. That’s all for now . SYOTR
Well it’s July 1st 2007. I wanted to take the time and pass on a lesson I learned the hard way so no one else has to go through what I am. Long story short. Don’t carry your kayak on long hikes by putting the backband on your head to carry your boat. Unless your in super shape you will wind up like me with a herniated disc in your neck that has actually paralized my left arm. Not only am I in amazing pain but I’ve lost the use of my arm and my neck will never be quite the same again. It will be months if not a year before I can paddle again. More if I have to have surgery. I also wanted to pass on to those that think a chiropractor can help, well, they can’t. With these types of injries if they manipulate the neck in even a slightly wrong way you may be in a wheel chair. I have spoken to a couple of people that are now permanently disabled because of this. This isn’t how I wanted my first post on World Kayak to go but here it is.
Safe paddling everyone.
