2016 NoliFest Hometown Throwdown Downriver Boatercross

World Kayak proudly announces the 8 th annual series of grassroots paddling events in the Tri-Cities region.  The World Kayak Hometown Throwdown is a series of FUN & FREE whitewater paddling events aimed at friendly competition on the Nolichucky River.  Event rules are easy and prizes are only given out for participation… we draw names from a hat! All boaters/paddlers are welcome to participate!  Our World Kayak region has teamed up with local Sponsors & World Kayak Partners to have this special event at NoliFest with prizes!  Look for other HTTD events over the course of the 2016 summer paddling season also.  This event will be a 1.5 mile downriver boatercross on the Lower Nolichucky (Class I-II rapids)!

APEs Bombproofing Your Roll/Bracing Clinic with Stephen Wright

A pool session with the Hobbit King to improve your rolling and bracing! (Registration Deadline—Jan 29, 2016) Appalachian Paddling Enthusiasts (APEs) is pleased to announce another of its Paddle with the Pros clinics with Stephen Wright.  Jackson Team member, Stephen, is a 4-time U.S. National Freestyle Champion, took 3 rd place in the World Championships in both 2009 and 2011, and was the Pan American Champion in 2011. This one evening course is designed for the boater who wants to perfect their rolling and bracing techniques in a kayak.  This is not a beginning rolling class.  The clinic will be held at Freedom Hall Pool in Johnson City, TN.  Course will be limited to 10 students.  This course will likely fill up fast so be sure to send in your registration form and payment to reserve your spot ASAP

APEs Whitewater Long Boat Racing Clinic with Chris Hipgrave

Do you want to learn how to go fast in kayak? The Legendary Chris Hipgrave is joining the APEs for a GO FAST Session on the Nolichucky Gorge! (Registration Deadline—Feb 6, 2016) Appalachian Paddling Enthusiasts (APEs) is pleased to announce its first kayak racing clinic with Chris Hipgrave from the Nantahala Outdoor Center .  Chris is the current Ocoee Race Champion two years running and is on the Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine Athlete Team.  His name is always toward the top of the results in any race he enters!!  For those who do not know this British Bro make sure you check out his website for many of his racing accomplishments: http://chrishipgrave.com/ This one day course is designed for the intermediate/advanced boater and will focus on river running in modern whitewater racing kayaks in the context of a river trip.  It will be held on the Nolichucky Gorge in Erwin, TN. We will meet at USA Raft at 11am and should be done by late afternoon.  Participants should be comfortable on class III water and have a reliable roll

Hometown Throwdown at Muddy Rivers Festival 2016

A heathy sized group of Central Oregon paddlers enjoyed the first day of 2016 in the sunshine and on the water.  The 36 degree water of the Metolius River and zero degree air temperatures did not deter spirits.
