Celestial Falls is now the offical name

On 11 December, 2014 the USGS Names Board approved Celestial Falls as the official name for the drop.  White River Falls was also approved for the upper drop.  This was done with the consent of the Oregon State Parks Department.  This is a good sign and we will continue to seek their cooperation.  Next we will research and publish the history of kayaking on Celestial Falls.  The posting of this history in the park will shed light on the contentious issue of banning the public’s use of a state owned waterway.  I do see legal use of the falls by kayakers in the future.  I want to run the falls openly on a warm summer mid-day with spectators cheering.  This is our waterfall and we have the inherent right to use it as part of the public trust doctrine.  Please stay safe on the falls.
