August 30, 2007 – The legendary boater and Internet message board poster has moved on to greener pastures, leaving questions and awe in his wake. Former model, socialite, alcoholic, ultra-marathoner, bookie, poet, anti-environmentalist, and extreme whitewater kayaker “Boofsquire” officially announced his retirement today , ending a long, storied career as one of the most extreme paddlers ever known. Boofsquire became known as one of the most elusive and loved paddlers of his time, who documented the vicissitudes of his life in witty, sometimes plagiaristic posts on the Internet message board Paddle Prattle , provided to paddlers in the Washington, DC area by the Monocacy Canoe Club.

August 15 – One of the most underrated waves on the Potomac sits in one of the most awesome locations. At low summer levels a visit to Horseshoe Wave is not to be missed! Situated right at the base of Great Falls, in an area known as The Fishbowl, Horseshoe Wave is a great surf when the level is between 2.75 and 2.55. Depending on the trend of the river and the exact level, it can vary from a flattish, fast wave–perfect for those long front surfs–or a steep, bouncy dynamic wave that gives up great tricks.

Every year the Potomac River, well known among the DC boating community, but one of the least known resources world-wide, holds an incredible event, the Potomac Festival. I have been going to this event almost every year since 1984 when I moved to DC from New Hampshire.

June 11 – Liquid Adventures announced today that they will be hosting a three-event Feeder Cup slalom race series this summer on the Potomac River. In a post on Pattle Prattle , Nathan of Liquid Adventures announced that the Feeder Cup would return to the Potomac, with the first event on Saturday, June 23. The Feeder Cup is a low-key, fun slalom race that is open to boaters of all abilities, and all boat types
