IRK had sessions Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Devon Barker came down and volunteered to put on a clinic for the kids. What a great roll-model
Anyway, Channel 2 came out and shot some video and had it on the Sunday evening news. This event was the brainchild of Chuck from Alpenglow and really turned out to be a great event - thanks Chuck and Devon!

We had a blast at the Idaho River Kids roll session last night at the Downtown YMCA. Chad Long was back from Chile and had the advanced kids in the lap pool playing water polo. It was the first time most of the kids had played and found it really worked their skills. My boys were chatting about the evening all the way home.
The 7:30 roll session was packed. I think everyone senses Spring in the air and thoughts are beginning to change from skiing to summer sports - and what better thing to do than paddle??

It’s January again and that reminded me of a video I shot a couple of years ago on a chilly January day on the Payette South Fork Staircase run. The river had been iced up until the weekend before, but a ‘warm’ spell had opened up this section.
With our old pal Wes in Mexico, I happened upon this video and thought “That BUM Wesley!!”. Our rivers have ice floating down them, so I’ll live vicariously through images of warmer climes.
Here is a little vid of our first attempts at kayak surfing in the ocean. This is on the South Jetty near Florence. It definitely turned out to be the ‘Tyler Show’ - he had some of the better rides. These were two short sessions - big learning curve, but next time should be even more fun

UPDATE 2:10 pm - Chief Parrish Fire now over 3,000 acres. Fire crews have allowed one lane of Hwy 55 to open. Pilot car is in affect so expect delays!

This is a little video I shot from my front yard last night - and a pic from yesterday morning. The Chief Parrish Fire between Horseshoe Bend and Banks grew to about 2,500 acres- during the night and has Hwy 55 closed. This shuts down paddling on the Main Payette from anywhere - and there is no access to the South Fork and North Fork runs from Boise. If you are coming down from McCall the Cabarton, North Fork and South Fork runs should be accessible.
As for the Labor Day weekend - we had some fun times at the Gutter. We met some nice gals from Seattle - one worked at Seattle Raft and Kayak, but typical for me I can’t remember her name
But had a good time talking with them.
Here are some pics of monkeys playing in the back of my truck, our friend Jim helping his son, Buey, and my daughter, Paige, do a little boogie-boarding. For some reason didn’t get any paddling shots….
