By Zimo - Idaho Statesman Edition Date: 08/30/07 Original Article HERE The river has been closed because of fires burning in the wilderness area.

The fire closure on the wilderness stretch of the Main Salmon will be lifted Friday and the first launches from Corn Creek will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, the U.S. Forest Service reported today in an e-mail.
The Main Salmon wilderness stretch is more than 80 miles through the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. Floaters need a permit to run the section from Corn Creek to Vinegar Creek.
The Forest Service plans to allow recreational traffic downriver from the Cove Creek Bridge on the Corn Creek Road from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
River runners who launch at Corn Creek will be required to have their vehicles removed to a location above Cove Creek Bridge the same day as they launch (no overnight vehicles downriver) and overnight camping at Corn Creek will not be allowed.
All private parties will be required to stop at the North Fork Ranger District office, north of Salmon, to obtain permits and pay fees.
The Forest Service has a plan for alternate launches from Cove Creek, if the fire situation worsens and vehicles can’t be driven further downriver.
Downriver, jet boat traffic can resume to the extent there is enough water, the federal agency said.
