tr1.jpgScott took us to the Climax wave for our class day before yesterday. The river was at 4990c.f.s. and the third wave was perfect for surfing! :-P! Everyone was looking solid. The hard part was getting in the eddy afterward. If you missed you either had to try to pull yourself up on a rope or got the the eddy on river right and try to ferry in to the river left eddy. Near the end a jet boat came by making some cool waves. Right now is definitely the level to surf Climax if you want a good surf.

td1_3.jpgWe had the first Boise Throwdown yesterday. It was at the Gutter. When we got there the hole wasn’t there but the third wave down looked fun. Some of us got there early and practiced for about half an hour before the Throwdown. Between 5:00p.m. and 5:30p.m. the hole came in and so we competed on the hole. There were 8 kids and 5 adults. I was in the Juniors. We did some freestyle and some down river stuff. I made third with 34 points. The weather was nice at 64 degrees and sunny. Afterward C.J. and I took our new Sidekicks for their first test drive in the river. C.J. and I found that the Sidekick not only met but exceeded our expectations. What a great boat. needless to say we all had a great time and can’t wait for the next Throwdown.

We had our first class with Scott and Thomas at the Gutter. They were teaching us all sorts of freestyle tricks like the blunt, split wheel, and shove-it. Tyler and I attended the class with Ethan, Conner, Michael, and CJ.  Though some of us took some lumps we all had lots of fun and learned lots.We are looking forward to tomorrow. I hope to see you on the river soon.

troy3.JPGI got my green Side Kick! It was really light weight and felt VERY nice. I have been waiting for this for awhile and can’t wait to get it on the river. I have to get it all custom fit and then it will be ready to roll.(Pun intended.)

We paddled the upper main yesterday. I went in a 31 gallon Shooting Star. I got in some cool surfs. We went from mile post 77 to Cascade Raft and Kayak. The water was at about 2100 C.F.S. and A.M.F was kind of weird. That was really fun, the water was cold though. All in all it was really fun and we felt really good.

My dad, Tyler (my brother), and I went down the Upper Main for the first time this year on March 22nd. I had a chance to try out my new IR semi-dry pants. They kept my warm and dry. I didn’t flip but did a few braces. Tyler rolled 3 times and my dad practiced at least 6 rolls. BRRRRRRRR. We ran from mile post 77 to Chiefs Parish. It was about 2,300 C.F.S.. Which is a little low compared to the normal summer flow. We had lots of fun and hope to see you on the river.

I got out kayaking for the first time this year on the river February 17. My dad and I paddled at the Gutter. It was sure was fun! :-). I used my orange Jackson Shooting-Star. I did a practice hand roll but that is all. I threw a couple of snow balls while I was in my kayak. If you’ve ever been there you have probably seen the gutter dog, Shadow. He was there swimming like it was really hot. Weird!

I did my first run on the South Fork of the Payette River. I loved the run but my boat was big and leaked ALLOT! I only flipped in Dog Leg. I didn’t paddle hard enough above the hole at the the bottom and got surfed. The boat was so big I couldn’t lift an edge, I got flipped, and rolled. I got washed out though. We ran the left line on Staircase. Lucky for me the rest was uneventful. With Slalom we ran right to left. It was a Great run. The river level was at: 2,889 C.F.S. .

Here is a vid my dad shot:
