London 2012 Olympics

I got a call early in the morning from a paddling mate Sam. Who said he had scored some last minute tickets to the Men’s C2 Semi Final and Final and the Women’s K1 Semi Final and Final at Lee Valley. Well I didn’t take any persuading at all to join him!

It was great seeing the venue with all the stands set up, the whole place was buzzing with enthusiasm for the sport. Our seats were just below the last drop of the course where we could see from the first corner right to the finish line. We were sat two rows from the front in the friends and family stand in the French quarter. It just so happened that the women’s K1 gold medallist Emilie Fer’s mum was sat just behind us.
As I’m sure anybody who watched the Olympics knows the GB boys won both Gold and Silver in a very exiting final.  Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott who came through the semi-final in 6th place had the first run down with a time that simply could not be touched on the day winning the gold. David Florence and Richard Hounslow who went through in first place in the semis were last down the course smashing it to take the silver medal.

I think my friend Sam summed it up the best at the time “watching our sport, with great seats on a gloriously sunny day win with the best possible results” It was simply fantastic!

Cheers!
Mike.
