PalmerFest and Canadian Instructor Conference

Palmerfest participants: 2 for 1 on any DVD titles and books through June 1st. Send me an email with a second title, after you place an order online.

I recently had opportunity to visit Canada, and visit with many of their top paddling instructors. While many of their issues are the same as instructors worldwide, some are different. I was guest speaker to Palmerfest, and thier first ever instructor symposium.

First I was struck by how Canadians are so darn polite to each other. I left with a reminder to myself to live more that way. Even though I rarely catch myself being rude, like most of us I can get caught up in being cynical, in a way that is counterproductive. They are kind to the earth too… with many of them bringing their own plates and utensils to each meal rather than opting for paper.

History of Kayaking project underway

We are having great success finding tremendous footage of the early days of kayaking. Someday, when our project is released, you will see advertisements for the first plastic kayaks, training films from the 1930s and see the sparkle of some of the sport’s pioneers. At this point we are planning a feature lenght documentary, although one unanticipated situation is how much of a story we are uncovering on the birth of rafting, canoeing, and whitewater kayaking. Let us know of your interest, and if you know of any great historical footage!

Kents Spring schedule

In May we venture to Canada for a filming expedition to the Canadian Canoe Museum, and for a guest appearance at the First Canadian Whitewater Instructors Conference. Both promise to be great events. In between, we are sneaking off to Sugar Island, which is owned by the ACA on the St Lawrence. Updates on all that when we return.

New Release, the Birth of Freestyle Kayaking

The Birth of Freestyle Kayaking combines three classic titles: Retendo, Take the Wild Ride, and Give us a River
.

Get the most out of your local playspot!

Retendo! demonstrates and explains precision playpaddling, unlocking the secrets to cartwheels, squirt turns, and an array of exciting moves in a hole or off a pourover. Animation and other visual tools explain and simplify the most complex moves. Learn from kayak stars Scott Shipley, Chris Spelius, Marc Lyle, and others. Hosted by Kent Ford.

The Digitize Paddlesports Project

Performance Video has recently started the process of helping capture the great history of paddlesport. Our sport has a rich history, and we need to be sure it is preserved.

In closets across our country, film of the early days of paddling is decaying and is destroying our paddling history at an alarming rate. Once the film backing shrinks, it becomes brittle, and essentially unusable.

Our company, Performance Video, has a specific interest in your footage. We are starting a documentary film project capturing the exciting evolution of paddlesport in North America.

Where to send footage:>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
These vendors have a lot of experience at Film to DVD transfers. Please let us know your experience working with any of these:

http://www.digitaltransfersystems.net/ (perhaps best overall, 10% discount currently) http://www.posthouse.com/ (perhaps best quality) http://www.mymovietransfer.com/index.htm… (perhaps best pricing) http://www.homemoviedepot.com

We recommend that you get a Mini DV copy (longer lasting and higher quality format) as well as several DVD copies for you own home use and for distribution to the Hall of Fame and other archiving locations. Footage of known historical significance should be also put on DVCam or Beta SP format. We hope you might consider sharing your footage with our project. We would like to offer to pay for extra copies to make sure copies make it out of your closet! We will reimburse you for the Mini DV copy, and the additional cost of Beta SP (or hard drive) archive if you choose that format.

Please contact  kentford at gobrainstorm.net with any questions or feedback.
