Enjoying my fist full day at home since leaving for India on Nov 18th. I returned on Dec 18th only to turn around and leave the same day for kayaking on the Smith River and then holidays with friends and family, finally finishing with a weekend at the redwoods and central California coast. Regular updates will resume with a few more photoshop tutorials as I think of things to talk about.
I managed to take good care of the D700 in India but have been putting it to the test back home, while getting the previous Cave Springs shot I had the camera on a tripod and set it down so I could run inside and get another lens. Somehow I set it in an unstable spot and it fell over, on cement. I was pretty sure it was bad news as it fell five feet and the lens cap flew ten feet away on impact. Amazingly the D700 only has a small ding in the corner and the 20mm 2.8 is just fine. Perhaps the slushy snow cushioned it a little. I got away with one there. On the coast I got away with another. The waves were crashing nicely and I knew the shot I wanted, which required me to get close, a little too close. Half a second before getting doused.

Nice and wet, but who cares, life is good.
