Back from India
I was glad to return home on December 18th after a wonderful trip in India. We spent two weeks exploring in Sikkim and found some great sections of river and one big waterfall, then we spent the next two weeks running two classics; the Lohit and Siang. The Lohit was epic with four days on the water, starting with around 7,000cfs and finishing with 15,000 and the Siang was big water fun with 30,000cfs. Updates will be on our new sponsors website in early March, we are still finalizing our contract with them and will update when possible on that whole situation.
I was stoked to have the Nikon D700 on the trip, noise performance was unbelievable as promised, truly lives up to the hype in that arena. It is a heavy camera, notably more than the D200, and interestingly enough, my two favorite shots from the trip came from the D200 anyways. One recent and bad surprise from the camera happened this morning while shooting a portrait for C&K, pulled the camera out in 20 degree weather and nope, it did not function correctly which is a huge disappointment for a camera of this caliber. The shutter would just freeze halfway, battery life full and everything else ok. I left the D200 with Chris Korbulic in India to document the rest of their trip, so I pulled out the old D50 and sure enough it worked like a champ in the cold weather. Curious if Nikon will have anything to say about this, but I imagine not…so hopefully some real updates soon once I recover from jet lag and the holidays.
