Quick tip on managing memory cards.

I personally like to use 4gb or 8gb Compact Flash cards because if one card goes bad, I won’t lose all my photos from a trip. This of course is not true on day trips as I rarely shoot over 4gb a day, but on the multi-day expeditions it’s a safe way to go. Once you start switching out cards one thing quickly comes apparent; you need a way to mark your full cards so you don’t have the hassle of switching cards to find that the newly inserted one is full. I put a small piece of paper in the case with each CF card. When the card is empty, the paper sits on the back side of the card, and if the card is full I put the paper in front of the card in the case. Easy as that, no loading full CF cards into the camera. It’s good to be in the habit of switching out 10-20 shots before the card is full, because in the heat of the moment it’s easy to forget and run into a full card dilemma and miss a shot.
