In a previous post I told you about the crack I found in my boat during our long American river run. Well, I tried to patch it with a blow torch and some plastic I cut from my boat under the skirt and it did not turn out well… It looks ugly and didn’t fix the hole. The reason for this is the previous owner already patched the boat in the same spot with a glue that melts faster than my plastic so when I put the blow torch to it, the glue melted and mixed the burnt glue with plastic.

I am going to try one more time and then, if that doesn’t work am just going to use gorilla glue like I have on the front of my boat sealing some loose screws.

We took two trips this weekend and both were amazing!

The first started out with us going downtown to kayak at night for the first time. the highlight of the trip was a guy passing out drunk in the sidewalk by the kayak X-ing sign! It was crazy! he we had to stop and wait while he was dragged off to the side. We then got dressed and walked to hole three, right pass the cops and ambulance that showed up said “excuse me” and went kayaking! I was crazy! My little brother caught a crawdad too.

The next trip was two days later on sunday after a long night of drinking. We went to Chili Bar on the South Fork of the American. We must have still been a little drunk because we were giggling the whole ride down! once we got there we got in the water as quick as possible and I flipped my self and stayed under as long as I could to refresh myself. we then decided that we wanted to do the Gorge too. Little did we know that it was 10 miles of flat water that would even move backwards at times. I also had just found a crack in my boat that was small but took in an amazing amount of water. We finally made it to the end and reealized that because we got a late start, 11:30, nobody would be going back to Chili Bar to catch a ride from. Yes, we decided to hitch hike and take one car. I was chosen to hitch hike. I have never done that before. I got a quick ride to Lotus from some rafters who I helped load up, they knew my friend Shannon whitch was funny. the next ride took longer as I only had on a pair of immersion research shorts, which I won from the last throwdown!! I then got a ride from a big time kayaker who had gone on first decents all over the world and other crazy rivers I can only hope to run in my lifetime.

That weekend was amazing, I loved every minute of it, even the flat water.. Here is the crack in my boat, I am going to try to weld it tonight. It is one of two welds the boat had when I got it. the other one is on the opposite side of where the trailer wheel cut into my boat. at least I have matching dings!

I just moved so I have not been able to post for a long time and I apologize to all of my long time fans, but now I am back!

I recently tried to create a kayak trailer for my bike. It was or I guess still is made of PVC with two lawnmower wheels. I only was able to use it one time as it broke on my way back from the river. It made it down ok but on the way back up when my kayak was all wet and heavy it had trouble.
Here is a picture of the aftermath:

As you can see it came apart in transit, but what you don’t see is what happened before that.

This is where I rode all the way home with the wheel shaving away my boat pedal after pedal… It also ate away at the PVC:

The idea was good but it just didnt work out, next time I am going to use thicker PVC and a better axle. I now have a gold mini van to carry mine and everyone elses kayak down to the river. I just hope the tire worn part holds up.

Jesse

Hello again,

Now that you know a little about me I would like to let you know about the UNR Kayak Club. If you go to UNR joining should be a top priority. Just go to asun.unr.edu then, in the club pull up menu, click join club. you will need to sign in then click the Kayak Club and you are in!

I am just starting this club so once I get 10 members and it is official, I will start sending out letters to companies for discounts and funding, and trying to get money from the school for trips. The school loves to give money to clubs but I need 10 members and only have 5 now then in the Fall it will be official. Let me know if you have any questions.

Keep on paddling,

Hi everyone!

My name is Jesse and I love to kayak. I have a wavesport super EZ right now that I bought really used at the River Festival in 2007. It is holding up well but I am looking towards getting a shorter boat like the Jackson Superstar that is more suited for the Reno kayak park.

I have been kayaking for a little over a year and love every minute of it! The kayak park is so close, I go as much as I can. I love going to the Hometown Throwdowns and have gone to every one except the first one this year, I was the guy in just a PFD and my dads orange 70s kayak helmet in March.. I finally got a dry top and am looking forward to the new comp July 9th.

Thanks for listening

Jesse
