Washburn Youth Freestyle
Last weekend I headed to the Washburn for the youth freestyle event. First one I’ve attended to lend a hand with some guiding and judging. All I can say is those kids have it good! The old Peak challenges were good but its nice to see an event tailored to the younger generation.
Some good paddlers came to the event and some impressive up and coming stars, plenty of potential on show. Sponsors Pyranha, Square Rock, Big Dog and many others represented themselves with plenty of Demo boats making it a great day for everyone.
The morning saw all paddlers blasting down the Washburn diving for eddies left, right and center. Getting advise and coaching where necessary. Then after lunch and a briefing paddlers headed to their individual comps. Novice and Intermediate/expert categories for male and female gave everyone a good chance at paddling with people at their standard. I’m sure most will agree it was good to see Sam Ellis doing some judging at the novice with myself. Sam I think very impressed with the effort of the youngsters was crying out to see the classics such as stern squirts, paddle spins and some eddie line action!
The day was finished off with a down river race and prize giving. After prize giving people hit the road to get back home from all over the country. A great event and fantastic turnout!
Results will be up shortly see www.youthfreestyle.co.uk
