House Run Head to Head Races

james wrote 188 days ago:

Alright team, lets milk this last day of sunshine before the rains grace us with their presence!

The last couple Wednesdays, we’ve been treated with some real high water which brought in some baller surf waves. Now that we got our big wave fix, its time to down shift into second and go fast again.

When I kicked off the World Kayak Wednesdays in March, we had almost six straight weeks of river levels between 3500 and 4500 cfs. As fun as that was, and with all the good times we had in the canyon, I am stoked to work with some high levels for some other sections of river that we don’t dabble in too often.

With that being said, tonight’s World Kayak Wednesday Event is… House Run Head to Head!!

Starting at the “High Adventure” put in (Not the one at the bottom of Exit), two paddlers at a time will race each other to the Icicle Bridge. If you loose, you get to hang out and drink beer. If you win, you get to go again. We will draw names at the pre race meeting and build a bracket.

With flows of almost 10,000 cfs, we’ll be moving fairly quickly out there. I am anticipating sub 5 minute laps.

So, rally up to the Icicle Bridge after work or boating or whatever it is you’re doing today, and get your race on. For those of you who haven’t been on the House Run this high, do not be discouraged. While it may be big, it is pool drop and the rapids are friendly.

See you all at 5:30 tonight!

Cheers,

T-Pot!

Three Amigos Race

tommygunn wrote 188 days ago:

Alright, alright, alright… Event 3 in the Wenatchee Valley for the World Kayak hometown throw down. Is the “Three Amigos Race”! The format will be a race chaser start or Pursuit. At the call of 3, 2, 1, Go!, we will release the first racer then in 5 second intervals each succeeding racer will follow. The second race will receive a 5 second deduction, third a 10 second, fourth a 15 second and so on. At the end of the event the finishing judge will tally up the racers results. This format will give competitors just enough space to charge their line but there is still the potential to get over taken during the run. This race is rough 1100 – 1200 meters and is intended to test the paddler’s forward stroke. The time domain for this event is estimate to in the 7 – 15 minute range. For those training for the Robe race this is a great chance to practice drafting and or your power move to overtake a competitor. For this event we will need a minimum of two volunteers if you are interested please let me know. If there are any local photographers that have the evening free come out and join us.

Registration starts at 5:00pm
Competitor briefing 5:30 – 5:45 pm
Race start around 6:00 pm

Looking forward to racing with everyone. Cheers!

The first event in the 2017 Nolichucky Hometown Throwdown series was some fast paddling fun! We had a great turn out with 15 competitors joining in for some friendly downriver boatercross competition!  We had some spectators who watched and cheered on the competitors from the start line.  The event was held on the Lower Nolichucky River, TN with mild cloudy skies.

The river level was around 1,200 CFS and spirits were high with several first timers in this event!  The course start was at the USA Raft river access and the finish line was the Chestoa Pike Bridge 1.5 miles downstream.  The course have several class I-II rapids and a couple of islands to negotiate along the way.  We launched classes in a mass start format and good times were had by all!
