House Run Head to Head Races

bozemankayaker wrote 222 days ago:

Alright team, lets milk this last day of sunshine before the rains grace us with their presence!

The last couple Wednesdays, we’ve been treated with some real high water which brought in some baller surf waves. Now that we got our big wave fix, its time to down shift into second and go fast again.

When I kicked off the World Kayak Wednesdays in March, we had almost six straight weeks of river levels between 3500 and 4500 cfs. As fun as that was, and with all the good times we had in the canyon, I am stoked to work with some high levels for some other sections of river that we don’t dabble in too often.

With that being said, tonight’s World Kayak Wednesday Event is… House Run Head to Head!!

Starting at the “High Adventure” put in (Not the one at the bottom of Exit), two paddlers at a time will race each other to the Icicle Bridge. If you loose, you get to hang out and drink beer. If you win, you get to go again. We will draw names at the pre race meeting and build a bracket.

With flows of almost 10,000 cfs, we’ll be moving fairly quickly out there. I am anticipating sub 5 minute laps.

So, rally up to the Icicle Bridge after work or boating or whatever it is you’re doing today, and get your race on. For those of you who haven’t been on the House Run this high, do not be discouraged. While it may be big, it is pool drop and the rapids are friendly.

See you all at 5:30 tonight!

Cheers,

T-Pot!

2017 HTTD Season kicks off April 26th

saskia wrote 278 days ago:

It’s that time again…

Hometown Throwdown Season

This year we have already had more precipitation than any other year in recorded history in the Northern Sierra so flows will be high throughout the summer.  With that in mind we are going to go a bit longer this year and hold events through June.  So grab your friends, dust off the paddling gear, and meet us in two weeks to kick things off.  HTTD will start at 5-530pm on Wednesdays every two weeks.

  • April 26th –  Reno Whitewater Park  –  Slalom Survivor Race
  • May 10th — TBD
  • May 24th — TBD
  • June 7th — TBD
  • June 21st — TBD

Because flows will be changing a lot this season, we will be adjusting the event type and location as we go. So check back in for information on the next event.  As always Colin has worked to get great sponsors for World Kayak in 2017, this year we already have lots of great gear from:

  • Jackson Kayak
  • Mountain Khakis
  • Ninkasi
  • Accent Paddles
  • IR
  • Kokatat
  • Effort Inc.
  • Astral

Remember that we will always have lots of great beer from Ninkasi Brewing.

See you on the 26th!!!!!

Bad weather Wednesdays returned this week for the HTTD#3 held on the Floriston rapids.  We had 16 racers this time who navigated a fun course with one major move around a large midstream boulder requiring a full 360 degree path with several attainments.  As always the race was followed by Ninkasi brews in the parking lot where racers were part of a raffle for great prizes from our sponsors including: Jackson Kayak, IR, GoPro, Chaco, Rapid Transit, Kokatat, Astral, Ninkasi, Shred Ready, Stonyboater, Smith, and Mountain Khakis.
