The first event of the season is less than a week away! Looking at the river forecasts for the St. Joe and the Coeur d’Alene, lake levels, and current flows… Confidence is high that we will be able to make things happen at Corbin Wave!!! The level has been holding at a perfect 20,000 CFS for over a week now and there have been boaters out surfing it every day for almost a month. Next week’s event will be @ Corbin Park on Wednesday May 17th @ 6pm. The event lay out is geared to make it fun for the beginner to the advanced paddler, and for the downriver boater and/or the play boater in you. There will be 3 to four heats depending on flows and group size. The individual heat events will be announced at the start of the evening and should provide plenty of entertainment. This location is perfect to bring your family or a friend that is interested in kayaking. The location and ease of access make it perfect for them to watch our local kayaking community in action. So bring your long boat or your short boat and be ready to have some fun!

SARAPIQUI RIVER festival 2014

bozemankayaker wrote 1069 days ago:

Check out the official website for the 2014 Sarapiqui River Festival in COSTA RICA coming up this November 21,22 and 23!! The Sarapiqui River Festival was born as a strategy to promote the importance of conserving and protecting our beautiful Sarapiqui River while promoting river sports and providing local youth and families the opportunity to get on the river and try out rafting and kayaking. The 2014 Sarapiqui River Festival is dedicated to the local firefighters and consists of three days filled with races of all levels and additional activities for the entire family. On Friday, November 21st, there is a Boater Cross Race on the Sarapiqui River, on Saturday, November 22nd, an Extreme Race on the Poza Azul River, and Sunday, November 23rd, an open race on the lower section of the Sarapiqui River, in addition to other competitions and family activities.  For the entire community we will have kayaking demonstrations, a kayak ramp, boats for use, local artists, informative stands, food vendors, and much more. A local Costa Rican band, Targua, will also be joining us for the fun. The Sarapiqui River Festival  is presented and organized by a local community organization, Chilamate Activo, with generous support by local and international organizations, businesses, and people. The meeting place for the festival is Chilamate Rainforest Eco-Retreat located in Chilamate, Sarapiqui, Heredia, Costa Rica. Lodging, food services, and tourism information are offered by the retreat. Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat is a family run conservation and sustainable tourism project that plays a major role in organizing this festival. The greater region of Sarapiqui also offers a wide range of accommodations, restaurants, and activities including zip lining, whitewater rafting, trekking, educational tours, and much more. This year the grand prize award for the Master’s level race will be a flight to Mexico for the famous, internationally renowned Alseseca Race! Secondary prizes include paddles, helmets and much more! Please LIKE our Facebbook Page to keep posted on the event. PURA VIDA from COSTA RICA
