Fall Paddling Gear…

Well we are in the heart of Fall here in Missoula, Montana.  We know lots of folks are out hunting and what not, but it’s still a great time to be paddling.  There’s nothing better then staying in great shape and paddling right up until the start of ski/snowboard season (and maybe during the winter season if you’re geared up proper).   The key to enjoy paddling in colder weather, is to be geared up proper.  Here’s a list of items that will take your cold weather paddling to a new level:  (We’ve made a list in 2 categories…”Whitewater Kayak” & “StandUp Paddle Board”.

Whitewater Kayak:

1. The Ultimate SetUp:

*Dry Suit: This is the Ultimate in cold weather attire wether creaking, running river or play boating…Dry and happy!
*Union Suit: This is one single fleece layer for under your dry suit…That’s right…simple and warm!
*Skull Cap: Brain freeze or not to brain freeze…
*Mitts: Just like Mom always said, “mittens are warmer!”  They also give you a nice grip on the paddle…

2.  The next Best SetUp:

*Dry Top: If you are paddling hard, you might still get damp… but you’ll stay warm
*Dry Pants: Make you look cool if anything…?
*Fleece Top: Multi functional for a variety of paddling conditions…
*Fleece Pant: Multi functional for a variety of paddling conditions…
*Gloves: Not the warmest option…still warmer then nothing…

StandUp Paddle Boarding:

1. The Ultimate Whitewater SetUp:

* Wetsuit: If you want to paddle in whitewater below 45 degrees you need a 5/4/3 thickness minimum suit…4/3 is the best suit for Spring/Fall
* Booties: Go for the 5m booties for late Fall/Winter water temps

2. Flatwater SetUP:

*Fleece Top: Layer like you’re headed to the slopes…just don’t fall in the drink!
*Fleece Bottom: layer like you’re headed to the slopes…just don’t fall in the drink!
Booties: 3m-5m thickness booties will work best…
