Update-2nd HTTD of the Season is this Wednesday

natefry wrote 863 days ago:

It has been a great spring with good flows and great weather. Area boaters have been out daily hitting up all of the creeks, rivers, and play spots that the INW has to offer. A warm April has melted off most of our snow pack but we still have water in the Spokane River and there is another fun HTTD this week. According to Avista flows should stay around the current 2700-3100CFS range for the next week or so. The warm water coming out of the lake and these flows will make for a great event at Sullivan Hole!
• This Wednesday June 15th, event will start around 6 pm.
• Meet at the Mission Road Trail Head Parking area for paper work at 5:30 pm, and then we will move up stream to Sullivan Hole for the Pre-Event Briefing.
• Event will be a multi skill event to include a short slalom style course in the Sullivan Hole Rapid, show off your best tricks in a freestyle session at Sullivan Hole, and if time allows a quick throw bag comp to see who has been practicing their rescue skills this spring.
• All you need is your gear and a throw bag if you have one.
• Come out even if you are not interested in racing. It will be fun to watch and there is always a need for safety kayakers.
• Also bring friends and/or family to enjoy the comp as this location is right next to the Centennial Trail and has a good shoreline for viewing the event.
• After wards we will finish up in the parking lot with some laughs and swag. The new parking area has a great spot with grass and picnic tables for hanging out.
Cheers

Home Town Throw Downs Coming to Spokane

tommygunn wrote 1238 days ago:

We are excited to bring the HTTD events to Spokane this summer. Our First event will be next Wednesday.
Down River Kayak Race on the Upper Spokane!!!!
• Next Wednesday June 10th at the Mission Trail Head in the Spokane Valley. Pre-Race Meeting at 5:15
• Short boater cross style race down the Mini Climax and Sullivan Hole rapids. The number and size of heats will depend on how many come out to play.
• All you need is your gear and a throw bag if you have one.
• Come out even if you are not interested in racing. It will be fun to watch and there is always a need for safety kayakers.
• Also bring friends and/or family as the Centennial Trail is right next to these two rapids, making it easy to spectate.
• After wards we will finish up at the Mission Trail head for some laughs and swag.
The next HTTD is on Wednesday June 24th. The location and type of event will depend on water levels.
A big thanks to World Kayak and their sponsors for providing the logistical pieces needed to make these fun grass root events happen. There will be plenty of pictures and stories to post soon.

Cheers

New Trailer Park Access Point

natefry wrote 1323 days ago:

The levels on the Spokane River have been dropping and Trailer Park Wave should be in any day now. With warm temps and plenty of sun, it is the perfect time to head out for some surf and to check out the new parking area provided by Avista. For years Trailer Park Wave was difficult to access. Boaters had to make access from the opposite side of the river and over a half mile up or downstream of the wave. The new access point is just across the river from the wave. A short walk down a developed trail and a quick ferry is all it takes to get some surf. The new parking area, bathroom, and trail can be found at the intersection of W. Lundy Blvd and W. Iron Horse Cir. Follow the link for more details and a great article on the new access point written by Rich Landers.
