APE’s Lower Doe River Cleanup

bozemankayaker wrote 78 days ago:

Meeting at Green Bridge Landing river access across from Hampton High School at 10:00 A.M. to clean the Lower Doe River section to Valley Forge, TN.  Jerry Griffin will discuss the sections that he has mapped and crews assigned at the river access Saturday morning.

Most of the cleanup will be wading and walking the river banks to collect trash. We can still use boats to haul trash out on by pulling them with our rope, but at these levels the water will to shallow to paddle in most places.
We want to get as much trash as possible out of the river, but are looking to clean up to the flood plain for safety reasons and time limitations.  We will carry the trash to the roadside for pickup and removal.  Carter County is placing a dumpster at Green Bridge Landing to collect all trash from cleanup.  APE’s will provide trash bags and gloves to all participants.

Return to Green Bridge Landing by 4:00 PM for a pizza party from Jiggy Ray’s (http://jiggyrays.com/).

House Run Head to Head Races

natefry wrote 189 days ago:

Alright team, lets milk this last day of sunshine before the rains grace us with their presence!

The last couple Wednesdays, we’ve been treated with some real high water which brought in some baller surf waves. Now that we got our big wave fix, its time to down shift into second and go fast again.

When I kicked off the World Kayak Wednesdays in March, we had almost six straight weeks of river levels between 3500 and 4500 cfs. As fun as that was, and with all the good times we had in the canyon, I am stoked to work with some high levels for some other sections of river that we don’t dabble in too often.

With that being said, tonight’s World Kayak Wednesday Event is… House Run Head to Head!!

Starting at the “High Adventure” put in (Not the one at the bottom of Exit), two paddlers at a time will race each other to the Icicle Bridge. If you loose, you get to hang out and drink beer. If you win, you get to go again. We will draw names at the pre race meeting and build a bracket.

With flows of almost 10,000 cfs, we’ll be moving fairly quickly out there. I am anticipating sub 5 minute laps.

So, rally up to the Icicle Bridge after work or boating or whatever it is you’re doing today, and get your race on. For those of you who haven’t been on the House Run this high, do not be discouraged. While it may be big, it is pool drop and the rapids are friendly.

See you all at 5:30 tonight!

Cheers,

T-Pot!

Green River Rodeo

james wrote 884 days ago:

The Green River Rodeo is a free-form kayaking competition built around nontraditional freestyle. Essentially a group jam session. Competitors will meet at Green River Access Fund Parking lot at 9:30am August 1st. Please have all shuttle set. At 10 am we will announce four sections/rapids of the river the competition will be held on. As a unit the competitors/judges/film crew will move to each specified section of river and each athlete will get two scored runs (1 being lowest, 10 being highest) on that part of the river. The highest scoring run will count. There will be a 30 minute break while judges/camera crew get set up at the next spot and the format will repeat. After the event an awards party will be held where a winner will be crowned.
