Costa Rica SARAPIQUI Boater Cross Race 2014

This years Sarapiqui Boater Cross took place on Friday November 21st, beginning at the bridge in La Virgen, Sarapiqui, and running 500 mts downstream. We had 27 participants from all over Costa Rica, the USA, Canada, Austria, Mexico, Ecuador and Peru!

Native Sarapiqueño Oscar Arguedas and Diego Solano (Pina) tied for first place. Johann Castor, also from Sarapiqui took 2nd place and Quinn Connell, from the USA took home 3rd place!

The race is open category, and consists of class two and three rapids. Participants compete in groups, and the fastest boaters in each heat advance to the finals to determine the overall winner. The race takes place on the Sarapiqui River in the province of Heredia, Costa Rica. Mark down November 20th, 2015 to participate in next years competition.

The Sarapiqui River originates in the Poas Volcano and feeds the San Juan River, which runs along the border with Nicaragua. It is the second-longest river in Costa Rica. This river is a commercial river for kayaking, white-water rafting, and other activities for the entire region. This river provides all levels of kayaking and rafting.

POZA AZUL Extreme Race COSTA RICA 2014

This year the Poza Azul Extreme Race took place on Saturday November 22nd with 24 participants from all over Costa Rica, the USA, Canada, Austria, Ecuador, Peru, and Mexico!

The Poza Azul River runs over volcanic bedrock originating in the Braullio Carrillo National Park and feeding the Sarapiqui River. The Poza Azul Extreme Race is a Master Level race consisting of 800 meters down river, timed racing, through two class IV slide rapids to finish at a 10 meter waterfall with a very technical line to the finish point. This waterfall is a classic drop in Costa Rica and offers lots of surprises for its competitors.

The winner of this years Poza Azul Extreme Race is Diego Solano (aka Pina) won the flight to Mexico where he will be representing Costa Rica in the renowned Alseseca Race this January 10th, 2015. Antonio and Sofia from Aventurec (home base for the Alseseca competition) are supporting this years champion with free lodging and a kayak loan during his stay.
