This year the Poza Azul Extreme Race took place on Saturday November 22nd with 24 participants from all over Costa Rica, the USA, Canada, Austria, Ecuador, Peru, and Mexico!
The Poza Azul River runs over volcanic bedrock originating in the Braullio Carrillo National Park and feeding the Sarapiqui River. The Poza Azul Extreme Race is a Master Level race consisting of 800 meters down river, timed racing, through two class IV slide rapids to finish at a 10 meter waterfall with a very technical line to the finish point. This waterfall is a classic drop in Costa Rica and offers lots of surprises for its competitors.
The winner of this years Poza Azul Extreme Race is Diego Solano (aka Pina) won the flight to Mexico where he will be representing Costa Rica in the renowned Alseseca Race this January 10th, 2015. Antonio and Sofia from Aventurec (home base for the Alseseca competition) are supporting this years champion with free lodging and a kayak loan during his stay.
