Greetings from your World Kayak Ambassador!

I hope everyone has been enjoying this nice weather and some higher than usual water levels on the River James (I know I have).

The purpose of this post is to let you guys know that I am planning three or four World Kayak events for this summer.  Tentative dates are June 2, June 30, July 21, and September 13 or 15.

This year, in addition to the seasoned paddlers who typically attend the events, I want to encourage those who are new or relatively new to kayaking to “come on out”.  There’s be plenty of prizes (free schwag) for everyone who participates and I believe a good time will be had by all.

Stay tuned for specific details on each event.  More details will follow in the coming weeks.

Have ideas for events or how to make our gatherings as inclusive as possible?  Please share.  You can PM me on Facebook or email me at toddanderson6@gmail.com.

Oh, one last thing…a quick shout out to our sponsors:  Mountain Khakis, Keen Footwear, Ninkasi Brewing, Shred Ready, Astral Bouyancy, Smith Optics, Accent Paddles, Rapid Transit; and last but not least – Jackson Kayak.

Cheers!

Todd

The Valley Mill July MD Chute Out; Newbies to Pro’s

tommygunn wrote 1362 days ago:

The July Valley Mill MD Chute Out was held last night July 31st at it’s namesake; the MD Chute. We were lucky to have better than average weather for the month of July, and a decent water level as well. The level was a little over 3.1ft (which is typical low water for July) but still good for the comp. Some of the top playdogs were able to cartwheel, split, loop, and even McNasty.

We had a great crowd of folks, again, not typical for July, and a big group of juniors, which bodes well for freestyle’s future (at least here on the Po).

There were several classes of paddlers; from the juniors, first time B-class Chuters, all the way up to world class C-1′ers. We even had the current World Champion, Jordan Poffenberger competing.

Here are the results=

Juniors

1st-Taylor Pittman 31pts

3rd-Tom Doland 16pts

4th-Henry Bergen 14pts

5th-(Tie) Nathaniel Francis and Chris Valcone 7pts

Bad weather Wednesdays returned this week for the HTTD#3 held on the Floriston rapids.  We had 16 racers this time who navigated a fun course with one major move around a large midstream boulder requiring a full 360 degree path with several attainments.  As always the race was followed by Ninkasi brews in the parking lot where racers were part of a raffle for great prizes from our sponsors including: Jackson Kayak, IR, GoPro, Chaco, Rapid Transit, Kokatat, Astral, Ninkasi, Shred Ready, Stonyboater, Smith, and Mountain Khakis.
