On Saturday June 21 the OGNB approved the name Celestial Falls for the middle tier of White River Falls. Both the Oregon Parks & Recreation Department and Wasco County objected to this name. The 20 board members correctly recognized that these objections were due to the management of the falls and not due to the common name usage for the falls. Kayaker’s name usage ruled the day and now the proposal will be presented to the US Board of Geographic Names. Upon their approval Celestial Falls will become the official name forever and be a public tribute to the boaters who have run the falls. Just giving credit where credit is due.
