Its a very Merry Christmas here in Mexico. We have been paddling a bunch and are looking forward to the Alseseca Race in January. If you haven’t seen the best kayaking sunglasses made, yet? Check out the pics below.

These a hingeless glasses have no arms to break. Mine have been flawless, they are extremely difficult to scratch too.

Chris Gallaway and Spencer Cooke, both members of a kayaker/filmmaker group called Rapid Transit are scheduled to provide video coverage for the 3rd Annual Upper Green Race near Hendersonville NC.

In 2008 Gallaway was honored with 1st place in two separate film festivals, the National Paddling Film Festival and the Reel Paddling Film Festival, for his production of THE GREEN RACE MOVIE, a film/DVD that chronicles his struggle as a class II-III kayaker to gain the skills needed to participate in the famous Green River Narrows Race.

Cooke, who co-produced the film with Gallaway has also produced numerous popular paddling films, most recently THE EDDY FEELING, a film that focuses on the everyday lives of various kayakers as well as North Carolina’s Grand Canyon, The Linville Gorge.

The two will be filming with their HD cameras around and about the Upper Green Race on Saturday, October 24th, 2009. They plan to capture interviews with racers, event organizers and spectators as well as action shots throughout the class II-IV section of river. The Upper Green is a section of river below Tuxedo Dam near Hendersonville NC that proceeds the class V-VI, Green River Narrows. Most paddlers who frequent the Upper Green have not yet braved the Narrows and may not aspire to. Upper or Narrows no matter, the Green River is a beautiful gem in the Western NC Mountains which will be conveyed through a short film covering the upcoming Upper Green Race. Cooke and Gallaway plan to produce the film and broadcast it via RapidTransitVideo.com this coming Winter.

The SUP bug has bitten us all this summer. Stand Up Paddling is the best way to make those incredible class I-II runs fun all over again.

The SUP Board is about 10 and 1/2 feet long and 32 inches wide. Our boards are inflatable and are built to last in a river environment. Surfing is fantastic, the board responds to every shift in weight.

You can surf, river run and just simply enjoy a day on the lake. The best place to begin is in the flat water. Start on your knees and then work your way up. 20 seconds of practice and you’ll be on your way.

We will be running some trips with the SUP’s in Mexico this year. I’m working on a river list and maybe even an overnighter.

Half of Team Kayak Huasteca is here in Colorado this summer. Tomate and Christine in Denver and Marjie and I are in Buena Vista. It looks to be an amazing summer here in the valley. There is a new sunglass company in town and they have given us some glasses to use on the river.

These glasses are polarized and don’t have any hinges. They use an adjustable cord.

Once the cord is adjusted they stay put. Even after a nice ride in the hole on Number 3, Tomate still had his glasses on. They even fit under your helmet comfortably. You can check them out at.. WWW.SPOKIZ.COM

We have been having some busy days here in Mexico. Semana Santa always brings a lot of clients for rafting. The Tampaon still has quite a bit of water. The levels make for some great rafting action.

This is how we scout form the raft!
The river is an amazing turquoise color. It is like a slice of the caribbean here in the mountains. It makes for a beautiful day on the river. This section is the fifth canyon of the Santa Maria.

Russian Roulette is still over the middle gate rock, but there is always some downtime in this rapid. Two converging currents and a 6 foot drop make life interesting. This rapid is only here during medium to low water.

This is Amilkar showing the custies how Licuadora works. This guy is good at his job!

I’ll leave you with a nice shot of the canyon. The tampaon is a section of the Santa Maria. It begins at the confluence of the Gallinas and Santa Maria. This confluence is the 350 foot Tamul falls. Which you see below.

Thanks for checking out the site.

Tomate, Christine, Enrique and I went to El Salto on Saturday. The water was the clearest I have ever seen it. The color was from somewhere down in the Caribbean Sea. Levels are low but still runnable, maybe a week or two more. Everything else in the area is dry,or just barely class 3.
Luminosa is a great boof right now. It has a soft landing and a very nice entrance move.

When the water is this pretty it makes taking good photos easy.

Below is the left line of the Curtina waterfall, a really nice move when there is water. It’s boney now but Tomate still makes it look good.

April is almost here so its time for us to call it a season. I’ll do a few more updates in the next week or two. Hasta Luego

Some more photos of recent levels. This much water is due to the huge flooding that occurred in July and August this past year.

Still nice and fluffy on the bigger drops.

Last year. You can really see the difference. Lets hope the rain comes again this year. Keep your fingers crossed.
