Hometown Throwdown Season

This year we have already had more precipitation than any other year in recorded history in the Northern Sierra so flows will be high throughout the summer.  With that in mind we are going to go a bit longer this year and hold events through June.  So grab your friends, dust off the paddling gear, and meet us in two weeks to kick things off.  HTTD will start at 5-530pm on Wednesdays every two weeks.

  • April 26th –  Reno Whitewater Park  –  Slalom Survivor Race
  • May 10th — TBD
  • May 24th — TBD
  • June 7th — TBD
  • June 21st — TBD

Because flows will be changing a lot this season, we will be adjusting the event type and location as we go. So check back in for information on the next event.  As always Colin has worked to get great sponsors for World Kayak in 2017, this year we already have lots of great gear from:

  • Jackson Kayak
  • Mountain Khakis
  • Ninkasi
  • Accent Paddles
  • IR
  • Kokatat
  • Effort Inc.
  • Astral

Remember that we will always have lots of great beer from Ninkasi Brewing.

See you on the 26th!!!!!

Greetings from your World Kayak Ambassador!

I hope everyone has been enjoying this nice weather and some higher than usual water levels on the River James (I know I have).

The purpose of this post is to let you guys know that I am planning three or four World Kayak events for this summer.  Tentative dates are June 2, June 30, July 21, and September 13 or 15.

This year, in addition to the seasoned paddlers who typically attend the events, I want to encourage those who are new or relatively new to kayaking to “come on out”.  There’s be plenty of prizes (free schwag) for everyone who participates and I believe a good time will be had by all.

Stay tuned for specific details on each event.  More details will follow in the coming weeks.

Have ideas for events or how to make our gatherings as inclusive as possible?  Please share.  You can PM me on Facebook or email me at toddanderson6@gmail.com.

Oh, one last thing…a quick shout out to our sponsors:  Mountain Khakis, Keen Footwear, Ninkasi Brewing, Shred Ready, Astral Bouyancy, Smith Optics, Accent Paddles, Rapid Transit; and last but not least – Jackson Kayak.

Cheers!

Todd

Ladies Green River Takeover

The idea of this day is to get as many awesome women as we can out on the Green river together. It will be all about simply having fun on the water together as a big group of rad ladies. All too often the river is filled with men and I want to have a day where the women take it over! The plan is to start with a group run on the Upper followed by a trip down the Narrows. If you’re not up for the Narrows, then we’ll have a group taking out after the Upper. It is not meant to be a day of instruction or ideal for first timers, but of course the idea would be to support each other, share lines, suggestions, etc…

After the run, we’d like to all come together at Fishtop for some drinks, light food and hanging ou…t! The event is sponsored by Dagger Kayaks and Adventure Technology Paddles.

Additionally the event will be a fundraiser for the Shannon Christy Memorial Fund, a fund to honor Shannon’s memory by supporting women in the paddling community. We are recommending (it is not required) a minimum $10 donation for the event which will also get you a raffle ticket and the chance to win a paddle from AT, a sparyskirt, throw bag and gear bag from Seals Sprayskirts and Accessories, gift certificates from Mountain Khakis, a pair of shoes from Astral Whitewater and great GIRLS AT PLAY swag!

Mark your calendars and share this event with anyone who might be interested! We want ALL women who feel comfortable paddling either the Upper Green or the Narrows. Lets see how many ladies we can get out there!
