2017 Lord of the Fork Race Results

Thanks to all who endured some rather moist and frigid weather to take part in the 2017 LOTF race. We had observations of sleet at the finish line. I was wondering if we would finish the race in a snowstorm. The view upstream with mist jetting up from the turbulent water as the temperature fell was pretty awesome.

Our aspirations to become more tech savvy were challenged by the affect of rain on the iPad screens. After cross referencing notes and other materials, I think we have an accurate set of records. If you have anything to add, I’ll be happy to consider it.

As always, events like this take efforts of more than one. I would like to thank Sara Mullett for all of the registration help, bib collecting and for stoking an awesome finish line bonfire. Willy Witt for starting everyone off. Damon Patterson for spotting incoming bib numbers, and those that set safety along the course.

If those who still have bibs would be so kind to return them, it would be appreciated. These have been provided by the generosity of a few folks and are very expensive to replace.

Thanks again to all who make the Russell Fork a special place to come home to each year. Hope to see you next year,

Eric Henrickson  – Race Director

When: Thursday, October 19 at 7 PM – 9 PM

Where: Atlantic Ale House - 111 McClure St, Johnson City, Tennessee 37604

What: an outdoor showing of THE GREEN RACE MOVIE. This is an awesome documentary showcasing Chris Galloway’s journey to enter the world class Green Race. This race takes place every November on the class V+ Green river narrows near Asheville,NC.

ATLANTIC ALE HOUSE has agreed to let us host this event. This is a family friendly and chill environment. They have 16 local brews on tap and a food truck (taco truck I think) that sells sodas and food. Please arrive at 7 to get a seat and movie will show around 7:30, lasting approx one hour.

The move can be previewed here: https://youtu.be/kR0pgjlDEyk
Also I’m sure you will love this movie and can purchase it online at: www.theATmovie.com/shop.

APE’s Lower Doe River Cleanup

tommygunn wrote 296 days ago:

Meeting at Green Bridge Landing river access across from Hampton High School at 10:00 A.M. to clean the Lower Doe River section to Valley Forge, TN.  Jerry Griffin will discuss the sections that he has mapped and crews assigned at the river access Saturday morning.

Most of the cleanup will be wading and walking the river banks to collect trash. We can still use boats to haul trash out on by pulling them with our rope, but at these levels the water will to shallow to paddle in most places.
We want to get as much trash as possible out of the river, but are looking to clean up to the flood plain for safety reasons and time limitations.  We will carry the trash to the roadside for pickup and removal.  Carter County is placing a dumpster at Green Bridge Landing to collect all trash from cleanup.  APE’s will provide trash bags and gloves to all participants.

Return to Green Bridge Landing by 4:00 PM for a pizza party from Jiggy Ray’s (http://jiggyrays.com/).
