2014 Nolichucky Hometown Throwdown #2

wildwildwes wrote 1629 days ago:

The second event in the 2014 Nolichucky Hometown Throwdown series was big booming fun! We had a good turn out with 16 competitors joining in for some friendly freestyle rodeo for the first time since June of 2011!  We had several spectators who watched and cheered on the competitors from the river bank.  The event was held at Big Rock on the Lower Nolichucky River, TN with mostly sunny warm weather!

The river level was around 680 CFS; which is just starting to get retentive for play boating at Big Rock with the change in the feature due to the past two years of high flows.  We were all pretty excited though to final get some rodeo competition action in the feature!  A good time was had by all!

Participation in all events is the key to bring home a series championship for the year!  Now that 2 events are complete the heat has been turned up for some of our competitors in their respective classes to make their place on the podium!  The competition is the hottest in the Men’s Intermediate K-1 class with only 40 points separating 1-4 places and a current tie for the 3rd spot!  We also currently have a tie for 1st place in the Men’s Novice K-1 class!  Both of these classes should be fun to watch going into event #3 to see who comes out on top…

Jackson Kayak Welcomes World Extreme Champion, Nouria Newman to the Team

boyjeenyus wrote 1888 days ago:

Jackson Kayak announced the signing of top female whitewater paddler, Nouria Newman to their team.  Nouria, from France, is a top ranked slalom paddler, the current World Extreme Champion and was voted the top female paddler of the year for 2012 by Canoe and Kayak Magazine.  She will be joining a team of whitewater river racers in the hunt for championships across the globe representing Jackson Kayak’s continually evolving line of river running kayaks.

“I am stoked to join the JK Team!” States Nouria Newman.  “I am looking forward to paddle top performance boats as well as being involved in a company who understand me and support all my kayaking project whether it’s in a plastic boat or competing slalom. I am also very excited to be part of a team who loves kayaking as much as I do!”

“I am super excited to have Nouria on our team as she has been a competitor I have had the pleasure of sharing an eddy with over several years.” Says Emily Jackson, Team Manager for Jackson Kayak.  “Nouria is a big package in a little frame which makes her so much fun to watch! She can go big and is someone I look forward to working with more off and on the water. She is one of the most diverse paddlers and you can see each discipline contributing to the other. Cant wait to get on big wave with her again!”

About Nouria Newman: Nouria resides in Le Villaret du Nial, France and, at 21, has accomplished more as a whitewater kayaker than most would in a lifetime.  With an eclectic list of competitive results in three major whitewater disciplines (slalom, freestyle and extreme racing), Nouria showed success at an elite level at a very early age and evolved into a top female paddler. Nouria continues her amazing climb in whitewater this past year with podium finishes all over the globe winning the Whitewater Grand Prix,  Voss in Norway, the Ottawa XL and with top finishes at the Slalom Worlds and the World Cup.  Nouria was recognized for her accomplishments as a paddler winning this past year’s Rider of the Year award.

About Jackson Kayak: Jackson Kayak was founded in 2003 by Eric Jackson and Tony Lunt. Currently located in Sparta, Tenn., near the Caney Fork River, Jackson Kayak designs, builds, and manufactures leading whitewater, fishing and exploration paddlesports products. He loves all parts of the sport, helps others, and pushes the sport to new levels and it’s going to be fun having him around when designing the next boats in our fleet. I am proud to call him my friend and honored to call him my teammate.”

Fly fishing for carp is a real challenge. Long considered ‘trash fish’, one little secret fly fishing guides have known for a long time and enjoy doing on their days off is going after carp. More and more now we’re seeing dedicated carp fly fishing websites and tournaments.US Carp Pro Magazine and theOrvis Carpocolypse are just a few examples. Orvis Carp Central has a bunch of great information on setups and gear.
