Support Elizabethton Whitewater Park in the Works

A whitewater park on the Lower Watauga River could be coming to Elizabethton, TN soon thanks to some good work between the Elizabethton IDEAS Group, Appalachian Paddling Enthusiasts and Tennessee Valley Authority! :-)

Project Update:

Project Coordinator, Metin Eryasa, has spoken with the folks from River Restoration in Carbondale, Colorado and it looks like we will be bringing them to Elizabethton sometime in the first 2 weeks of February 2018.  While here they will survey our possible sites.  Then they will give a presentation of what we can expect and all that wil be involved.  There will also be a question/answer period so that by the end of the presentation local officials and residents will have a good idea of what we are proposing. The fee to bring River Restoration to Elizabethton is $6,800.  We already have raised over $5,000 towards the $6,800.  We are on the final stretch and I feel confident we will reach our goal.

You can help support the #SURFBETSY project by purchasing a window sticker (as seen above). The money from these stickers will go directly toward the project as well as let more people know what we are doing. Please go by Jiggy Ray’s Downtown Pizzeria and purchase a sticker. We are asking for a minimum $5 contribution for each sticker.

Check out the video link below about River Restoration and a couple of parks they have already built for more information:

Where – USA Raft, 2 Jones Branch Rd, Erwin, Tennessee 37650

Have you ever wanted to camp out of your white water boat? Here is your chance to give it a try on an overnight trip in the Noli Gorge!
-
Everyone has been asking for this one, so here we go! The plan is to meet up Saturday July 9th mid-morning at USA Raft. USA Raft will shuttle us up to the put-in and we will start making our way down the gorge. We will camp on the river side that night and finish out the run Sunday the 10th.
-
We will likely also do some climbing when we get to camp for anyone that wants to check out that scene.
-
We have a couple rafts lined up to help carry any gear that you may not be able to fit in your boat. The goal with t…his is to not have to buy anything special you may not have to pull off camping out of a white water boat.
-
To join this trip, contact the trip coordinator and let him know about your skillset and gear concerns.

APE Congaree Swamp Paddle/Camp

APE's Logo3 days & 2 nights on the Congaree April 22-24 ‏. This is a self contained trip meaning all your food & gear must fit in your kayak/canoe for the entire expedition.

Leaving out Friday morning to drive to Harry Hampton Visitor Center where we get our permit.

We will be putting in at Bannister Bridge Access after dropping off a vehicle at S. Cedar Creek Rd.
We plan to camp near there to hopscotch another vehicle down to the Hwy 601 bridge for the next day.

It is very windy and tight at the top of the river where we put in. Boats over 14′ will be greatly challenged, so Day Touring Kayaks, Crossovers or Canoes are suggested. And there may be logs or places we have to drag or pull our boats through so bring good water shoes for mud!

Food: You will need 2 dinners, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts along with your river snacks. Bring water and means to filter water.

We are hoping the insects won’t be bad yet but don’t forget your bug spray and head nets just in case!
