james wrote 693 days ago:

World Kayak brings you another exciting event to showcase the incredible sport of WW kayaking in British Columbia with the 5th annual Jordan Creek Race in Revelstoke.

Revelstoke is a sleepy ski town in the West Kootenays that hosts some of the best late summer to fall creeking in the area.  The race is a first of it’s kind on the Jordan and promises to be filled with stout lines and charging paddlers.

Northwest Whitewater Racers Event

james wrote 1042 days ago:

On August 9th, the Slalom race on the Clackamas river (Roaring River influence) in Oregon was held. This was a race in the Pacific Northwest Slalom championship which includes races in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. This race site was very beginner friendly being held on a class II- section of the river at a very low (550 cfs) level. Ideal for first time racers. World Kayak supported this race with the intent to introduce people into the fun and challenging world of slalom racing. Racing of all classes was supported including very expensive carbon fiber racing kayaks, canoes and a lot of recreational plastic boats. We even had a separate class for kayak polo boats this race. As an added incentive World Kayak supported the event with some SWAG for first time racers and winners. 5 first timers were there to collect the bounty. One racer had only been on moving water 3 times before this race!

So if you haven’t tried slalom racing give it a try. Many races are held on “easy” class II whitewater. This gives you a chance to be challenged by tough ferries and eddy turns without the consequence that harder rapids provide. Anybody can try it and the experienced racers are VERY encouraging to newcomers and love to give pointers.
