Triple Crown Cookie MonsterThe Farmington Triple Crown is my third competition of 2010. First was the Alabama Mountain Games, then the NOC slalom competition, then Emily and I packed everything we needed for the next 6 months and hit the road.

New England was our first stop on our 2010 tour. I was not so sure about the whole thing to be honest, for some reason I was expecting snow, and I don’t know why but the extra 20 hours of driving wasn’t to appealing. Though after arriving in the 90 degree weather with warm and high water levels I quickly changed my mind of the whole event.

The Triple Crown was on combination event consisting on Wild Water (down river sprint), Slalom, and Freestyle. It was really cool to do all three events, being that it rewards the best over all paddlers. Though doing all three events in one day, and then do it all again the next day as well is full on.

EJ beat me in the Wild Water be 9 seconds, though out of a 4 minute race I felt I did pretty well, especially being that I had never paddled a Wild Water boat before in my life.

Next was the Slalom, in which I lost to EJ again, but also to my young Brother-in-Law as well. I had really great runs for the prelims, but in the finals Dane beat me by 1 second. I had a faster Raw time, but I wasn’t as clean and had too many penalties. Though to be honest Dane looked super smooth, better technique than even EJ on several of the gates.

The third and Final event was the Freestyle down the Rapid. This was really cool, being that you could surf any of the features and still do down river moves along the way. I had won in the Prelims, though I couldn’t keep up in the Finals and I was beaten by EJ and Dane as well and Jordan, and maybe even Craig (not sure of my final position).

Though with the combined scores it ended up with EJ the over all Winner, Dane in Second and myself in Third along with Jordan Poffenberger winning the overall for C-1.

Though Dane Jackson was in my eyes the best over all winner, being that Iron Man that he is, competing and placing in both C-1 and Men’s K-1 in all three events. I though I was tired after doing all three back to back in two days, he competed in 6 competitions throughout the whole weekend. Dane is the true over-all Iron Man.

It was an amazing competition, good weather, and welcoming crowd and a ton of fun. I will be back again for sure next year!

Stay tuned for a video update from the Triple Crown once I drive 5 days to California.
