The Mekong is one of the main seven rivers the drains from the Tibetan Plateau, winding through China and then Southeast Asia on it’s way to the ocean. We ran a high section that was probably about 50 miles long. Thanks to Tyson Rowley and Claire Dibble for some excellent photos and to Levin Brown of Great Mountain Rafting Company for excellent logistics. Levin, Jed Weingarten, Tashi, and Will provided good raft support while we played down the river. Enjoy!

Shanghai, China. After a long plane ride, a comical subway ride, and a slightly painful trek through downtown Shanghai, we are safe and comfortable in our hostel. This city is so much fun. The simple task of finding some earplugs becomes and adventure when you become lost, get led into a black market store, make friends with some amiable Chinese kids eager to practice their English, get distracted by magical massage chairs in the mega mall, and are served chicken hearts during your BBQ pit stop. Tomorrow evening we will depart on a two day train ride for Kunming in the southwestern province of Yunnan, which is only a bus ride away from our first put in on the Mekong River. Enjoy the comic!

Whew. It was a really sick weekend at the ASCI course competing in Nationals. The freestyle kayaking was incredible and the manmade whitewater course was really great. I think we have a long way to go as far as whitewater parks go, but it has gotten pretty sweet lately. Having a wave and a hole within a few hundred feet of one another was really great. As the shirts said, “Double your pleasure!” Well, enjoy! Thanks to Matthew West and Sam Fulbright for photos, and Corey Volt and Hobie for announcing all day in the sun!
