Hi all, i have not posted on here in quite sometime… guess i got a little to busy with paddling so heres a somewhat lengthy update.
This year i managed to attened USA freestyle team trials which was a lot of fun. I went to them as part of a program hosted by WCKA (world class kayak academy). I got to miss school for about a week and got to paddle everyday, what more could i ask for? The wave in Glennwood was very friendly but on the day of the competition it decided to be a tad bit mean to me. I flushed each of my rides except one, where i managed to fall on my head and then flush. That being said i still had an amazing time competing and plan to be back next year to compete again. While at team trials i also meet Hannah who, while not only being the one other girl with WCKA, is an amazing person and a great paddler!
After i returned home from Glennwood i got to go back to school.. yuck. But as school was drawing to a close i started planning for Salida. I flew into Salt Lake City where i met up with Hannah and her parents and we drove to Salida. The hole there is amazing and i had loads of fun and this time i fared slightly better in competition.. slightly being the key word.
When i got back from Salida i started planning for Skook. I went up with Rob and Quinn and we spent 3 days surfing Skook. The wave was amazing! the only sad part was that we went when it peaked around 15-17 which meant for a few hours each day the wave got so green that we were unable to surf it. As sad as that was the trip was still amazing and i plan to return to Skook someday..
Thats all for now!

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZOmA6mac5nQ" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]This weekend i got to paddle the green truss section of the white salmon river. This was my first real creek and i had a great day. There were lots of fun rapids through out the run and the whitewater was continuous. The holes on this run are very sticky though and i learned that very fast since i got stuck in one on the first rapid. I also encounted several other lovely holes. Over all it was an amazing day. Thanks to katie for the use of her creek boat and to Ej and everyone else. Video of me on double drop.

This sunday i went to the long tom hole most people might know it by the name, the butt hole seeing as it flows out of fern ridge and the water is not very appealing. It was at an amazing level and i managed to never hit the rocks in the hole, something that i always seem to do at other levels. I have attatched a video from this sunday and also from when i ran lake creek at over 18.[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/G1Pl42EbtXY" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]

Today i went to the long tom play spot but sadly it was not as good as i had expected so i headed to lake creek in hopes that redhill would be in. Redhill was in and was very fun at the level it was at it had a lot of bounce but was also very fast and pushy. After some good window shades and other non conventional tricks i managed to stick a number of blunts which made it a great day. Pictures are of a few rides since our camera died after about 8 shots..

I have spent the last few days paddling i started the new year off with a day at clover on the mckenzie river. The level was just under 5ft so it had not become the amazing wave it does at that flow which was a slight let down but still lead to a great day being that there was an okay wave further back. The next day i returned to the same spot with Ej. The level had umped up to 6.2 and clover had mostly washed out. But with the help of another paddler we got shuttle run for us and were able to head down to high water neils. High water neils is a very good wave hole and when we got there it had just come in but we speculated that if the water were to rise more it would get even better.
The next day i once again met up with Ej and we headed to lake creek. It was around 12ft when we got there and the crowds were out. We got down to grassy and experienced a crowded Northwest wave, something that is rather uncommon but it seemed that all of the paddlers in oregon were on lake creek that day. Mill wave was at a great level and i had a lot of fun surfing it. Redhill was a little to high but was still surf able and very bouncy.
To end my paddling i spent the day on the willamette river with Carey. I had hoped to find a high water wave that had not been discovered but all we found was some logs and washed out rapids. We did make our way up to 24/7 for a little but it was not the amazing wave i had hoped to find. That being said it was still another great day on the river.
Photos from the mckenzie thanks to Ej.

Recently it has been raining in the eugene area, thank the river gods, since for a while i was winter and rivers were still at summer flows which led to a lack of good boating. But the other day i went and ran lake creek at high water it was over 18ft and it was a very quick run. For anyone who knows lake creek the ledges had turned into a few big holes but mosly fun waves and ones below i caught the eddy above the horn but from the horn to below bus stop there where no other eddys just one fast roller coaster ride. Where grassy usually is there where a few large catch on the fly waves but nothin with eddy service. Mill wave contrary to popular belief was quite good at this level with only one problem, no eddy serive and no real way to walk back up. Red hill was just a rather nasty hole with a surfable shoulder and from there to the take out there were a few more waves to surf but nothing with eddy serivice.
Overall it was a great day on the water and i ran the section 3 times. The one downside was all of the wood in the river, it was not log jams but rather trees that would chase u downriver making surfing a little nerve racking but still very fun! I hope to post a video from this soon but until then this is what i have.

Today was the first south eugene whitewater club trip of the year. We had a very experienced group, and sadly no new members but on the bright side it meant that we could run a more challenging section of river. Due to the low flows we opted to run the damn released N Santiam. The section has a nice big water feel to it and is well worth running. The two main rapids, The Narrows and Niagara, were not as big as i had anticipated. According to Soggy Sneakers ” experts advise portaging this rapid” referring to The Narrows, the rapid is not that bad at all, it is about class 4 and i had no difficulties with it. Niagara is also said to be much more intense when in reality if you are comfortable with swirly water it is quite easy. The run has numerous other rapids that are fun and vary in difficulty from class 2-3. All in all it was another great day on the river. Picture is of all our boats on one car, we were being environmentally friendly even if it meant sacrificing some leg room.
