Rio Verde. A mexican classic.
December 13th, 2008 by Aaron
Seems like rivers with the name Verde are always good. The Mexican Verde is an instant classic. As soon as you run it, you know there are very few rivers that compare.
Our Team consisted of Aaron Koch, John McConville, Chris Baer, Lance Reif and Fil Payne. This run is a solid class 5 so bring some people you trust.
This is the first drop in the run…nice warm-up
This run is extremely remote. You don’t want to have any problems in there. A hike out would be a nightmare.

This is the lead in for the second drop.

The end of the second rapid is a 20 footer into a nasty hole…boof or swim!

This is the third of the three drops. These drops are all included in a 1/4 mile section. It comes at you fast, then you have about a mile and a half of class 4-5 drops until you arrive at the 80 footer.

There is a trail on river left for the portage. Tons of cacti and some barbed wire make for an interesting hike. Lowering the boats is a necessity, you want both hands for the climb.

Fil is standing in the top right corner of this shot. the waterfall is BIG.
The run is about 7 miles total. After cascada llovinosa expect some more class 5’s and about a 1.5 hour paddle to the take out.
See you on the river.
